Glisten & Glow H K Girl Top Coat - Review

*This product is Cruelty Free

Today I have a different sort of post for you. A top coat review! A while back I was sent a bottle of Glisten & Glow's H K Girl Top Coat by Jindie Nails when I reviewed her Holiday/Winter 2013 Collection. I did a Three-Part post of that collection and I used H K Girl Top Coat on all the polishes (where I used top coat at all).

I was going to do the review of the top coat then. But I decided against it.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty particular about my top coats and sometimes issues arise with them that I don't notice immediately. What if it's no good and based on using it on one collection, I recommend it and then it's not great? While I'd love it if I could only give positive reviews, some products don't deserve a positive review. So I decided to wear test it. Use it over different finishes, for nail art, etc.

Well the results are in!

I love it.

It IS, in fact, fast-drying as it claims. It IS, in fact, super shiny as it claims. It's smooth and easy and not too thick. It doesn't get cloudy or stringy. For really chunky glitter polishes, I'd still probably lay down a coat of Gelous or Poshe first, but then I'd top it off with H K Girl. You'd be surprised at how high up on my list the "not stringy" part is to me.

To see it in action, you can check out the three part Jindie Nails Holiday/Winter Collection posts because it wouldn't really do any good to show you "swatches" of it alone. (Especially on my stained nails. No one wants to see that!)  Part One, Part Two, Part Three.

But I haven't told you the best part yet! NAIL ART! Any of you who do any sort of nail art have had something you worked hard on smeared/ruined by top coat - even if you wait hours. I know I have. I used the H K Girl top coat on my Christmas Argyle Nails like 5 minutes after I was done and NO smearing!

Here's a quick smear test I did for you this morning...

I waited about 7 minutes after I did the dots.

This one gets two shiny thumbs up from me.

  1. Great review and yes - I totally agree! Two Shiny Thumbs for this one!!!

  2. It's my favorite top coat! i won it in a contest and over the summer and haven't used another brand since. ")

  3. Great review. I love your manicure too.

  4. I actually switched to HK Girl about a month a ago after finally giving Seche Vite the boot. I had been an avid SV user due to my nail art and needing something super fast. Nothing I tried was as fast as SV- until I found HK Girl! And what I love about it is that not only is it 3 Free (unlike SV) but it also doesn't dull holos like SV is notorious for. And no shrinkage! I have to order another bottle since I've been using this one with pretty much every mani I do.

  5. I love hk girl! And yes, it doesn't smear art like seche. I tend to save my hk girl for my nail art mani and use seche for everyday purposes.

  6. I'm an HK GIRL addict!! Love Glisten & Glow!!

  7. Thank you! I've been wanting to try a new top coat!

  8. I LOVE HK girl to death. I won't use anything else!

  9. Wow! That top coat looks great! I should try it<3

  10. I've been wanting to try Glisten & Glow's H K Girl Top Coat for a while now and yup, your review just made me commit! lol! I still have a stash of Seche Vite to finish (two bottles I think?) before I purchase though... blahhhh! Awesome review!

  11. That is a great test with the dots, awesome, so glad I have this, in case I ever do dots or anything...

  12. Excellent review. This has been my go-to top coat. You just proved once again why HKG is the best ☼

  13. I've been wanting to give it a try for a while now, and now I'm hopping to get a bottle! Thank you for the great review! -Just a quick question though, does it live up to it's claim of not dulling holos? :)

    1. No it doesn't dull holos! That's a holo I'm wearing in the smear test photo and I've worn it on the Girly Bits Holos with no issues at all. ♥

  14. I also forgot to ask if it is fast drying as in "not dent-able" or just "to the touch" because I find that some fast drying polishes are great for quickly heading out the door, but with some I wake up with blanket marks on my nails even if I did them a couple hours before bed. :)

    1. I haven't had ANY dents or sheet wrinkles so far! It's always at least 10 minutes before I head to bed but I used it over a straight creme last night and went to bed about 15 minutes later and woke up to a super high shine with no imperfections. I'm sort of blown away by this one. I just knew it wouldn't be "all that" like I'd heard but it so is.

  15. Thank you so much Shelia! You're totally unbiased review is amazing! Thanks for your honest review! We are thrilled that you love Glisten & Glow HK Girl top coat!
I look forward to sending you some awesome goodies in the future! I'll be contacting you in 2014!
    Thanks again! Jill

  16. Ooo... I do like the non-smearing aspect. May have to order one once my Seche is half empty. Thanks!

  17. Definitely need to try this one!!

  18. I am so happy to read this; I impulsively ordered 3 bottles of it the other day with my Llarowe order. I've only read rave reviews on it. I love my Poshe, but it does definitely smear dots. I am, however, very happy with the 'franken' top coat I'm currently wearing. I had a goopy almost empty Poshe and I mixed it with Seche Restore, Out the Door, and the NYC clear polish that's quick-drying.
