Model's Own Pro Moulin Rouge - Swatches and Review

I was so excited to get a brand I hadn't tried before, let alone 3 different brands in one day! The others will wait, though. Today I have Model's Own Pro Moulin Rouge to show you. Those of you in the UK are probably laughing at me for never having tried Model's Own, but it's not that easy to get in the US! Thankfully more and more shops are willing to ship here now.

It's a gorgeous color in one of my favorite color families - berry/plum! It's a Limited Edition deep berry plum and I picked it because it was PRETTY! And a creme. I'm a sucker for a great creme.

Unfortunately, that's where the love stopped.

The application wasn't great and it took 3 coats for full opacity. The brush is okay, but I had a little issue with it pooling at the cuticle and then I had to be careful with the 3rd coat because of cuticle drag, which I'll admit could be because I got impatient.

If it had just been that, I could have sucked it up because it really IS gorgeous. But the smell. Not a fumey nail polish smell, a smell like they added scent to it on purpose! I don't know if all Model's Own polishes have this smell, but I'm sensitive to it and after a few hours it started to make me nauseated. I put lots of top coat on after I took the photos but it didn't help. Even my man noticed it and said something about it.

But...here are the photos anyway. Three coats and no top coat.

I really really wanted to love this brand and this polish. I'm hoping to get feedback on whether all Model's Own polishes have that scent added. If not, I will certainly give some other colors and finishes a try. If so, I guess I'm going to save a lot of money!

  3. I think it's a common problem with the whole Models Own range. I don't own any of the pro line, but I own quite a few of their normal range and they all smell really strong. I think with the application is a bit hit and miss, some of them are really gloopy and are a nightmare to apply, but then some of them apply okay, but even then it's not very good.

  4. This is so pretty and looks really lovely on you! I'm sorry to hear that it is stinky! I hope that the smell fades! I've never tried this brand either :).

  5. Update on the smell! Aparently Model's Own Pro polishes all have scent added. The regular Model's Own line doesn't. I don't mind nail polish smell - even before 3-free and all. But sickeningly sweet scents added on purpose really get me. Really, STOP IT! LOL. I hear Color Club is coming out with a line of scented top coats. WTH?
