Chanel April vs Pure Ice Rumors

Ever since I got Chanel April there's been sort of a tickling at the back of my mind - like I have something sort of like it. I did a quick look of my stash and didn't see anything so I chalked it up to it just reminding me of one of those colors from the 70s and 80s - you know, every variation of red, mauve and pink imaginable because there weren't really any other "acceptable" colors?

Well this evening, while going through my polishes to see what I might put in a blog sale, I found it. Pure Ice Rumors - at the very back. I can see now why it reminded me of April.

Before you get all excited, NO, they aren't dupes. Pure Ice Rumors IS a dustier version of April though, IMO, while April is "clearer." If you like this particular color, they are different enough to warrant both. If you are like me and it's not your favorite, I think you pick whichever one you like best and call it a day.

Here are the comparison photos...two coats of color on both - no top coat.

Chanel polishes retail now for $26.00 in the US.
Pure Ice polishes are available at Walmart and retail for $1.97.

Is there a difference in formula or application? Well, to be honest, yes. Chanel's formula is the tiniest bit smoother. However, I find that Pure Ice actually wears better on me. That may not be your experience though. Is there $24.00 worth of difference? Not in my opinion. Unless you're a collector. Then all bets are off!

  1. I love my cheap polish!!! If I'm spending anything over $5 on a polish, it better be something spectacular and one of a kind. That's for sure.

  3. Chanels have been really dupable lately which makes me happy. While I tend to really love their colors, I hate their formula, brushes, and price. I know Revlon makes Chanel dupes like nobody's business, but it's nice to know an even cheaper brand has some good replacements. Thanks for the swatch comparison!

  4. Wow!! They are really close. It's a no-brainer to me. I can get so many other polishes with that left over $24, lol. Thanks for sharing ;0).
