Wet n Wild Megalast - New Collection Swatches - Pic Heavy

I just ran across this Wet n Wild Megalast display tonight, although I think it came out late December 2011. The joys of living in PoDunk again - what's new to me may not, in fact, be "new." The bottles are redesigned, as are the brushes and yes, even the formula!

Here's a sneak shot with my cell of the display.

I already had two of the polishes by the same name in the little round 0.30 ounce bottles, but they advertised a new formula and the bottles are now 0.45 ounces, so I picked up all of them. I've done really fast swatches   for you. I knew if I left them until I could do a proper job, I'd never get around to it.

The new brush - it's wide. I mean W I D E! Here's a shot comparing it with the wide Dior brush.

As you can see, it's wider than the Dior brush AND it's not beveled. It doesn't fan out well and is a little uneven. I had a difficult time using it in the beginning, but by the end of the nine polishes, I'd pretty much mastered it. I'm still not a fan though. It's unwieldy and not balanced or cut very well.

*All photos are with ONE COAT unless otherwise noted.

First up, bottle shots of the two olds ones I already had compared with the new...

Through the Grapevine

Disturbia
The formula really is different.  Here is Through the Grapevine - new formula - alone. One coat.

And with the old formula on the index finger. One coat.  The new formula is much more saturated and opaque.

Next, Disturbia

And then the comparison. The new formula is more opaque in one coat, but there's not quite as much difference between them as there is with Through the Grapevine.

Now for the rest of them.

On a Trip (this one was very hard to photograph to show color accuracy. It's one of those purples that photograph blue. The first photo is the most color accurate.)

Sugar Coat - this one needed two coats and probably three would have been what I'd do for a full mani. It has a slight pink tint that may or may not show on your hand, depending on your skin tone.

I Need a Refresh-Mint - Another hard to photograph color between blue and green. I never did capture it. It's not as green as the 2nd photo, but it does have a tad more green than the 1st photo. The first photo is closer. Sorry, but I tried. Also excuse the cotton lint on my finger. It didn't really bubble. Oops!

I Red a Good Book - This one is a jelly. I used two coats but I'm still showing VNL. One of the reasons I'm not a fan of jellies. For people who like jellies or don't mind visible nail lines, it is a great red. Because of the shade of red and the formula, it reminds me of Chanel Pirate, which I never managed to make friends with.

So...what do you think? For $1.99 and full opacity in one coat (on most of them) I'd say you can't really go wrong!  I found these at my local grocery store (H.E.B. Plus) so I only paid $1.68 each.

  2. I like that none of them are really of the "passing fad" variety. And the formula is SO much better than it was before.

  3. These are definitely new to me. I haven't seen this display yet. I'm going to need a few of those, especially Disturbia.
