Zoya True Collection and Flecks Effects - Swatches and Review

So excited to get this new Zoya Spring collection! I pre-ordered it and it came on the same day as my two freebies from their earlier promotion.

I have lots of photos for you but I must add a caveat...I played plumber last night before swatching these and my hands aren't in great shape. I tried to replace a cartridge in my Moen tub/shower faucet in the guest bath and all I can say is do NOT buy Moen products! I'm so sore today...hands, arms and even leg muscles! And no it's still not fixed. The cartridge broke off in the housing and I can't get it out. Bah. But I'm NOT calling a plumber.

Anyway, I am so happy to present Zoya's True Collection for Spring 2012!

First up is Bevin.

Bevin is a sage green creme and I found this to be a two coater. Application is best if you start out with one very thin coat and follow up with a medium coat. It's very creamy but the first coat will pool on you if you don't start out really thin. The Fleck Effects are all shown with one coat over Bevin here.

Just for fun, the Twinkster wanted in on the action...

Skylar is a somewhat dusty cornflower blue with lots of silver/white shimmer, possibly even glass fleck? I also found it to be creamy and smooth and used two coats for full opacity. Application is the same as Bevin so for best results, start out with a very thin first coat and follow up with a medium 2nd coat. Fleck Effects are shown with one coat.

Tru is a bright yet deep purple with loads of gold and fuchsia shimmer. It also had the same application as Bevin and Skylar. Two coats for opacity, very creamy. This one is tied for my favorite with Lotus. LOVE! Fleck Effects are shown over Tru with one coat.

Lotus is probably my favorite of the collection (but don't tell Tru!) Creamy and smooth and full coverage and opacity in two coats. Same application as the others basically. It's a great somewhat muted or dusty purple with a bit of grey undertone and it's full of coppery fuchsia shimmer that really gives it life. I really sparkle heart this one.

Zoya Cho - trying to capture the shimmer

Both of these neutrals/nudes seem to give me "lobster hands" and I couldn't adjust the tinting to get rid of it without altering the true colors of the polishes, so...Cho is a warm nude with a slight silver shimmer and Farah is more of a true beige creme - almost a putty color. Both gave me full coverage and opacity in two coats. I was skeptical of Cho after the first coat, but the 2nd pulled it out! Either of these would probably make great mannequin hands for someone who has a bit of color to their skin and isn't as vampirish as I am. =)

I'm also including a photo of the Fleck Effects over a straight black creme to give a better idea of how they will translate.

Zoya Fleck Effects

Honestly, I see very little difference in the flakes (or flecks) between Maisie and Opal.
Chloe is in a pink tinted base with pink and green flakes that change with the light to coppers and golds.
Maisie is in a blue tinted base with green flakes which change to blue with the light.
Opal is in a green tinted base with green flakes which change to blue with the light.

Overall, I think this is a fantastic collection for Spring! Tru and Lotus especially make me think of Irises blooming. If I could only pick two, those would be the two. Although cornflower blue is my favorite blue shade. Hmmm...I'm just glad I ordered the whole set. =)

Which is your favorite?

  1. The more I see of Bevin the more I feel "meh" about it, but the more I see of Skylar the more I feel like my life is incomplete without it! Thanks for the swatches!

  3. I NEED Skylar in my life. I'm hoping Zoya has another good promo in the next month so I can get her!
And THANK YOU for showing each fleck with each polish! Most of the swatches I've seen have been one fleck per polish, and this just makes so much more sense. Thank you thank you!

  5. Thanks for the swatches! I was going to get all three flecks but Maisie and Opal look exactly the same so I'll probably only get one or the other.
