Above The Curve - The Holiday Collection

Good Morning! Today I have a Holiday Collection from Above The Curve to show you!
Above The Curve is an indie nail polish maker whose mission is to raise awareness for Shriner's Hospital for Children. $1 of every bottle sold goes directly to Shriner's Hospital for Children.
This collection is made up of six brand new polishes, one's a linear holographic polish, which they do SO WELL - check out their previous linear holos here if you haven't already. The others in this collection are glitters.
Let's start with It's Because I'm Green Isn't It? - it's a medium, cool-toned green linear holo. Application was perfect. No issues. Opacity in two coats. I didn't have any sun but it's a nice strong linear holo. Love.

Next we have Magic Reindeer Food. This one is a clear base with various sizes and shapes of red, green, white, gold and holographic glitters. I didn't have any trouble with application but I did have to dab a bit, as is typical with most glitter polishes like this. I didn't really have to fish for the stars, but because my nails have a "high arch" I would probably try to chose the placement of them next time. You can see in the photos there is a bit of either slight curling or reflective curling in some of the gold glitters. I didn't notice this or even feel it until I was cropping the close-up photos because the glitters are small. I didn't experience any curling at all with the rest of the glitters in this one. I used one coat of Gelous and one coat of Poshe and it was totally smooth to the touch. I layered this one over Pure Ice Viva Las Vegas.

Oh the Who-manity! is a white base glitter polish with a great pink shimmer and red and green micro-glitter as well as red and green hexes. This can be worn with no base coat, but I chose to layer it over a plain white creme. No issues with application, glitters suspended nicely in the base and no dabbing required. Everything spread out nicely on the nail and laid perfectly flat. One coat of Poshe to finish it off.

Kerbabbled! is a clear base full of various shapes and sizes of red and green glitters. This one required more dabbing and the red glitter pieces seemed to curl slightly. Again, the glitters are small so I didn't notice the slight curling until I went to crop the close-up photos. The glitters are suspended well in the base. I didn't see or feel anything out of the ordinary at arm's-length and one coat of Gelous made it smooth to the touch. I layered this one over It's Because I'm Green Isn't It?

Snow Daze is a clear base with matte white and translucent (opalescent?) stars, hearts, bars, hexes and squares and white micro-glitter pieces. Sorry, being a layperson, I don't know all the correct terms for glitters. I used two coats of this one over a plain red creme and a blue shimmer polish. I think for Christmas, I like it best over the blue - very Christmasy - but wouldn't it be great over the red for Valentine's Day? I didn't have any issues with application. The glitter pieces spread nicely and were well-suspended in the base and I didn't have to dig for anything. Because I have small nails and a "high arch" I would probably do manual placement of the larger hearts and stars toward the center of my nail next time. None of the glitters were curling at all and everything laid nicely on the nail. Perfectly smooth with one coat of Gelous.

And finally, we have A Munkle for Your Uncle. What a great name! It's from How the Grinch Stole Christmas, of course. This one is a clear base with various shapes and sizes of red, green, blue and gold glitters and gold and holo micro-glitter. I had no issues with application on this one either, nor did I notice any curling glitter pieces until I started cropping the close-up photos.Everything felt flat and smooth after one coat of Gelous but in the close-up shots you'll notice a slight curl to the glitter pieces. I've layered this one over several colors so you can see what it looks like. My favorite base color for this one is the black. (Layered over plain green creme on thumb, Pure Ice Viva Las Vegas on the index finger, Revlon Red on the middle, blue shimmer polish on the ring finger and a plain black creme on the pinky.)

  2. Amazing review. Beautiful pix. I didn't care for the 2nd polish but the first is gorgeous and the rest are nice and I'm not a glitter lover. But with that said, I have plenty of Orly, CC and other name brands with really bad curls that I still bought and wear. If you like the polish ppl will buy it. I would hope (and know you do) give the same type of review to commercial brands that curl, too. :)
