Comparison Request: KBShimmer vs Essie Starry Starry Night

Press Sample and Purchased by Me

Today I have a quick swatch wheel comparison for you, by request, of KBShimmer Carpe Denim and the elusive Essie Starry Starry Night. (Click the links for my original posts on both of these.)

So let's have a look!

As you can see, these are not MY strict definition of "dupes." But your definition of dupe may vary. If "close enough" is good, then you're golden! If you're looking for exact? This one isn't.

My thoughts:

*I prefer the micro glitters in Essie Starry Starry Night over the larger, holo ones in the KBS.
*I prefer the formula and application of KBShimmer Carpe Denim
*I prefer the cruelty-free aspect of KBShimmer Carpe Denim
*I prefer the availability of KBShimmer Carpe Denim
*I prefer the price of KBShimmer Carpe Denim

So for me, this round of "VS" goes to KBShimmer with a 4-1 win.

What do you think?

You can purchase KBShimmer polishes on their site here, at Harlow & Company and on Amazon.

Comparison Request: Zoya Normani vs Zoya Jana

Nothing to Disclose
*These products are Cruelty-Free

Several people asked how close Zoya Normani was to Zoya Jana before I ever swatched the new Zoya Naturel Collection and I've gotten several requests just since last night so here's a quick comparison for you!

Jana is just ever-so-slightly lighter than Normani and then only in really strong lighting. As I've mentioned several times, Jana is one of my top 3 favorite Zoya polishes of all time and I'm on my 3rd bottle of it. So it's no wonder I loved Normani. The formulas are the same, the application is the same and as you can see, the colors are *almost* the same.

But I'm not fussed about it because it's a shade I love.

Do you need both? No.

Even I wouldn't need both and you know if there's much difference at ALL, I want both. LOL!

Comparison Request: Chanel Rouge Noir vs piCture pOlish Vampire

Nothing to Disclose

Comparison Request
Chanel Rouge Noir vs. piCture pOlish Vampire

This morning I'm still working on some great collection posts for you but I thought I'd show you a really quick comparison between Chanel Rouge Noir and piCture pOlish Vampire.

These are not dupes, but the finished manicures do have that same vampy look about them.

As you can see, Rouge Noir is more of a crelly while Vampire is a true jelly.

This is ONE COAT of each...

As you can see, the opacity is quite different. Below is two coats of each...

I stopped at 2 coats of Rouge Noir and kept building Vampire...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There you have it! Not dupes at all. Vampire's jelly formula is great for jelly sandwiches while the crelly formula of Rouge Noir makes it opaque in two coats. So you need both. Sorry!

Comparison Request: Enchanted Polish Mr. Burgundy vs Pahlish Blood of the Mountain

Press Sample/Purchased By Me
*These products are Cruelty Free

Okay, since I posted Pahlish Blood of the Mountain earlier this evening, I've had several requests for a comparison between it and Enchanted Polish's Mr. Burgundy.

So here's a quick one!

Here you can see the micro-flakes in Blood of the Mountain a little better...

Are they dupes? Well you know me and the word dupe - so I say NO. BUT they do have a VERY similar look. They're both linear holos but Blood of the Mountain has pink and gold micro-flakes. The base colors are similar but Mr. Burgundy's purple flash is a bit stronger.

What do you think? Is this one of those "close enough" ones that you don't think you need both?

You know I need both. LOL! But IF I had to choose just one I think I'd chose Blood of the Mountain. The formula on both is fantastic but Pahlish's might be a smidge easier. And I love the micro-flakes.

For purchasing information, please see my individual posts with prices and links in the first paragraph.

Comparison Request: Dior Frimas vs butter LONDON, China Glaze and Elevation Polish

♥

I just have a REALLY QUICK comparison for you with Dior Diorific Frimas #318...

Frimas with butter LONDON All Hail the Queen, Elevation Polish ShiShi Beach and China Glaze Fast Track.

I was happy to do this comparison really fast because it's hard trying to explain that Frimas had sort of a mauve or rose undertone when you can't see it unless it's next to polishes you already have/are familiar with...so here ya go!

As you can see, it's nothing like any of the other three but I hope that seeing it next to these will help you decide how you think it will work on your specific skin tone.

*These products are Cruelty Free

I have a REALLY quick comparison post for you this morning before the Llarowe pre-order on the Colors by Llarowe polishes:

Colors by Llarowe
Gizmo vs. Gizzards and Lizards

As you can see, they both have the same green flash but Gizmo is green and Gizzads and Lizards is teal.

Here are my original posts on each of them

Comparison Request: Chanel Rouge Rubis vs BL and Dior

Nothing to Disclose

Okay I've had several requests for more comparisons with Chanel Rouge Rubis 677 so I've done two more...

Chanel Rouge Rubis 677 vs butter LONDON Come to Bed Red vs Dior Rouge 999

I also had requests for some others, but I don't have those, so we're using butter LONDON's Come to Bed Red and Dior Rouge 999 to compare with Chanel Rouge Rubis 677.

Artificial lighting...

Indirect natural lighting...

It's hard to really tell the difference in my photos no matter what I do (sorry!) but in real life, Dior Rouge 999 has more orange in the base than the Chanel and it's a smidge deeper. It is a true creme though. The formula on it is nearly identical.

butter LONDON Come to Bed Red isn't a true creme - it's more of a crelly and has maybe a slight bit more blue in the base than the Chanel. The formula is MUCH different. It's less opaque and the formula is thinner.

So, still no dupes - at least in my stash. If you're not a real red creme lover, then you probably don't need all of them - just pick the one that goes best with your skin-tone and has a formula you prefer. I, however, AM a red creme lover and I need them ALL!

What say you?

Comparison Request: Peach - Illamasqua Purity vs Sinful Colors Skylark

Nothing to Disclose
*Illamasqua is Cruelty-Free
*Sinful Colors - Owned by Revlon
(which is no longer Cruelty-Free)

Tonight I have a quick comparison for you of a couple of peach creme polishes: Illamasqua Purity and Sinful Colors Skylark.

Purity is a bit warmer and more orange than Skylark. As you can see, they're certainly not dupes. It's not the best color on me, so I really don't think I need both, but I get a bit less of a "zombie hands" look with Purity than with Skylark.

Illamasqua polishes retail for $17.00 in the States while Sinful Colors polishes retail for $1.99.

Both had the about the same formula. Not really a nickel's worth of difference between them in that area. As is the nature of pale cremes like this, they're a tad thicker than darker polishes in general. With that, you need to use very thin coats - two will do, but make them thin because they don't really self-level well at all.

What do you think? Do you need both?

Comparison Request and a Chanel Malice Dupe Alert?

*This product is Cruelty Free

Nope. This is not a Chanel Malice dupe. Chanel Malice IS, however, a dupe of THIS gorgeous polish! Deborah Lippmann's B!tches Brew has been out for a few years while Malice came out either this year or the end of last year.

You guys know I don't use the word dupe lightly, but this one is thisclose! Check it out.

Chanel Malice vs Deborah Lippman Bitches Brew

Chanel Malice vs Deborah Lippman Bitches Brew

Chanel Malice vs Deborah Lippman Bitches Brew

So what do you think? Bottom line, if I HAD to pick out the difference, I'd have to be wearing them side-by-side just like this and I'd have to have just the right lighting. I wore them both on the same hand yesterday and asked at least 10 of my real life acquaintances if they thought I was wearing two different polishes and not one of them could tell, much less pick out which nails were different.

So who wins the smackdown? Deborah Lippmann Bitches Brew and here's why:

* Deborah Lippmann Bitches Brew came out first.
* Deborah Lippmann Bitches Brew is cruelty-free while Chanel is questionable since they sell in China
* Deborah Lippmann Bitches Brew retails for $18, Chanel for $27
* Both formulas are comparable
* Both dry shiny
* Both are fully opaque in 2 coats
* Chanel Malice chipped first
* Bitches Brew is still widely available while Malice is sold out almost everywhere and is going for ridiculous prices on eBay

What say you?

Comparison Request: Emily de Molly Ground Control vs Enchanted Polish Hot Chocolate

I have a really quick comparison post for you - chocolate brown holos!

Emily de Molly Ground Control vs Enchanted Polish Hot Chocolate

As you can see, they're not the same. The linear holo is stronger in Ground Control and Hot Chocolate is a tad warmer.

Two coats of both with no top coat.

What do you think? Do YOU need both?

Comparison Request: Colors by Llarowe Vamp vs Little Red Corvette

Just a really fast comparison for you between Colors by Llarowe Vamp and Little Red Corvette.

Both red, both linear holos. But different.

As you can see, they're quite different. If you're not really into red holos, then you'd probably be okay with one. But if you're like most of us, they're different enough that you need both.

What say you?

Comparison Request: HITS Atena vs OPI DS Exclusive

Press Sample/Personal Collection
*One polish is Cruelty Free, one is not Cruelty Free

Before I could even post about HITS No Olimpo Atena (sent for review) I had a request to compare it to OPI DS Exclusive (Personal Collection) so here it is!

HITS No Olimpo Atena

First, this is the new formulation of HITS Atena - two coats for opacity and no top coat for the photos. No issues at all with formula or application. It's a holographic deep plum berry - pretty yummy!

Comparison Request: Zoya Charla vs Hard Candy Crush on Caribbean

Nothing to Disclose
*These products are Cruelty Free

Well THAT was fast! I've already had a few people ask for a comparison between Hard Candy Crush on Caribbean that I just posted and Zoya Charla.

Well, I can see why - they do look quite similar, especially when they're not seen side-by-side!

So here ya go!

Hard Candy Crush on Caribbean vs Zoya Charla

Hard Candy Crush on Caribbean vs Zoya Charla

Hard Candy Crush on Caribbean vs Zoya Charla
Hard Candy Crush on Caribbean vs Zoya Charla

So as you can see, they're not dupes. I've used two coats for each color and Charla really needed 3. Charla leans more toward the green side of teal while Crush on Caribbean leans to the blue side of teal. Charla has more gold than Crush on Caribbean. The finishes are basically the same though. Charla is just a bit thinner. They're both cruelty-free. Hard Candy is $4 and Zoya is $8.

What do you think? Do you need both?

Comparison Request with Elevation Polish Pic de Sotllo - Electric/Royal Blues

If you haven't seen my post on Elevation Polish Pic de Sotllo - GO! I'll wait...

Okay, understandably, a few people have already asked how it compares to some of the others out there. So I thought I would do a quickie comparison post for you using Revlon Royal, Nails Inc. Baker Street, Nails Inc. Southwark and Essie Butler Please. (UPDATE: I've added a nine polish comparison of blues at the end!)

Comparison Request: Chanel Nouvelle Vague vs SinfulShine Rendezvous

Personal Collection
*Unsure if Cruelty Free

One more comparison post quickly...Chanel Nouvelle Vague vs. the new SinfulShine Rendezvous...

Swatch wheels again - sorry!

And I nicked the polish on the swatch wheel after the first photo - lol!

Chanel Nouvelle Vague vs SinfulShine Rendexvous

Chanel Nouvelle Vague vs SinfulShine Rendexvous

Not dupes...sorry! But they are close. Rendezvous had a touch more green in it and doesn't have the shimmer that Nouvelle Vague has.

Close enough for you since Nouvelle Vague is now hard-to-find?

If you want a nearly exact dupe of Nouvelle Vague, check out Elevation Polish Jengish Chokusu. I did a comparison in that post.

Comparison Request: Periwinkle/Blue Comparison

Personal Collection
*This product is Cruelty Free

I have a really quick swatch wheel comparison of 5 different blue/periwinkle blue polishes for you.

Both photos are in indirect natural lighting. The first photo is the most color-accurate.

------------------------------------------------

Left to right:

Catrice It's All I Can Blue
Illamasqua Cameo
SinfulShine Alfresco
Salon Perfect Pure Azure
butterLONDON Sprog

and butterLONDON Sprog

Blue/Periwinkle Blue Comparison with
L to R: Catrice It's All I can Blue, Illamasqua Cameo,
SinfulShine Alfresco, Salon Perfect Sure Azure
and butterLONDON Sprog

As you can see, none are dupes. The closest two are Catrice It's All I Can Blue and Illamasqua Cameo, but the Catrice is a tad darker. SinfulShine Alfresco is the lightest of the 5 and Salon Perfect Pure Azure and butterLONDON Sprog are the most periwinkle of the 5 and somewhat close, but the Salon Perfect is darker. They actually all had smooth formulas and dried shiny.

Comparison Request: Camel/Nudes - butter LONDON Tea and Toast

Okay, I didn't have butter LONDON Crumpet to compare, but I have some of the others people have mentioned so here's a quick comparison...

Nails Inc. Hampstead Gardens, Nails Inc. Oakley Street, butter LONDON Tea and Toast and Dior Camel
Comparison

No top coat on any of them.

Nails Inc. Hampstead Gardens vs Nails Inc. Oakley Street vs
butter LONDON Tea and Toast vs Dior Camel

Nails Inc. Hampstead Gardens vs Nails Inc. Oakley Street vs
butter LONDON Tea and Toast vs Dior Camel

As you can see, they're all different. I actually loved the sort of ombre effect and did my right hand the same way! I used Chanel Beige on the thumbs, but it's much lighter than any of these.

Everyone who knows me knows I love Dior. LOVE. Love the formula of most of them. And I love Chanel. Love the formula on some of them. When they're good, they're excellent. But for me, the formula is hit or miss, depending on the finish.

But honestly? The Nails Inc. ones and the butter LONDON had better formulas than the Dior and Chanel I chose for this mani.

What do YOU think?
