Chanel Rouge Rubis #677 - Swatches and Review and a Comparison

Nothing to Disclose
*This product may NOT be Cruelty Free

Chanel
Rouge Rubis #677

Today I have one of the new Chanel polishes from the Nuit Infinie de Chanel Holiday Collection 2013 to show you: Rouge Rubis #677.

Continued after the jump...

Rouge Rubis #677 is what I call a classic red. It doesn't seem to lean either to the orange side or the blue side! It's a perfect creme too! I think it's what I hoped Pirate would be, but Pirate turned out to be more of a crelly and I couldn't get rid of the VNL (visible nail line). This one is perfection. Two coats with no top coat for all the photos. I've taken photos in artificial lighting and in indirect natural lighting and it does lean a bit more to the warm side in artificial light, but it's a true classic red creme that will go great with any skin-tone.

Artificial lighting...

Indirect natural lighting...

So how does it compare to other red cremes in my collection? I love red. I have a LOT of red polish. But I don't actually have that many straight red cremes. I pulled out a few Chanels, Dior Marilyn, Kiko 240 and Zoya Livingston. to compare.

I'm really not great at nail wheel swatch photos so I'll just tell you - I don't have an exact dupe. Zoya Livingston and Kiko 240 are the closest. Kiko 240 is slightly darker and Zoya Livingston has slightly more orange in the base. BUT, if you're not just stuck on an exact dupe, either of those would be great. The Kiko has a perfect formula - definitely comparable, if not a bit better than Rouge Rubis. The Zoya is slightly "runnier" but it's decent too.

So what do you think? Will you be getting this one? Or do you already have it? Can they MAKE a bad red? Not in my opinion. Well Pirate. But it was a fantastic red - I just didn't play well with the formula on that one.

Rouge Rubis is available on-line at nordstrom.com and chanel.com and several Chanel counters nationwide. Retails for $27.00.

  1. I love this so much! I was really hoping you were going to tell me it was a Dragon dupe so I could pass on it. Haha
