Water Marbling

Nothing to Disclose

Happy Monday! Today I have a FAIL to show you. I promised I would show my fails along with my successes on my nail art journey so it's time for another fail. Water Marbling. I swear I've watched hundreds of tutorials - on vlogs and blogs. And each time I'm like I GOT THIS! And each time...WHOMP.

I'm thinking it's like making gravy. Well, I'm hoping it is. For some reason as I was trying to learn to make cream gravy (or milk gravy as I call it) I thought I'd never get it. Until one day, in a flash, my lightbulb just went off and I haven't messed it up since! So I'm hoping if I keep trying, eventually my water marble light bulb will go off.

Last week was Metals Week for The Digit-al Dozen and I decided to try a metallic marble for that. Well...needless to say, it didn't turn out as I'd hoped.

So here it is.

It's not the worst water marble I've done, but it didn't make the cut. So I've listed a few of my go-to people for water marbles below for you.

Ashley over at Smashley Sparkles is such a PRO at it! Two of my favorites of hers...

As well as Jacki over at Adventures in Acetone. My favorites of hers...

I also found this tutorial quite useful - from Mucking Fusser.

So after seeing THOSE, you can see why I'm just really NOT happy with my attempts at all.

Here are some previous attempts I've made.

So as you can see, I AM trying. And I will keep trying until one of them looks remotely like some of the examples I showed you. If it kills me.

Have you tried this technique? Please feel free to post your water marbles on my Facebook Page! I'd love to see them!

Paint on!

If you enjoyed this post, please take a second to "like" it! Thanks!

  1. I think all of your attempts are beautiful and don't know why you consider them to be Fails. I actually like the way yours look better than the ones that look like flowers.

  2. Agreeing with the above comment! Yours isn't a fail at all! I thought it was part of a stamp of butterfly wings at first. It looks much more like water marbling is supposed to, much more organic and interesting, than the starburst patterns everyone uses on nails.

  3. I definitely don't think it's a fail! :)

  4. We should hang out and practice together! And if yours is a 'fail' then mine are epic disasters. ;)

  5. Hi, I think your marblings are beautiful. I like the irregularity, each nail is a one-of-a-kind!
I've tried it once and liked my result ,next will be different again.
I've just "got the curve" with water spotting, and really enjoy all this :o)

All the very best from Berlin! :-)

  6. I really like your metallic marble mani. It looks good and the copper aspect is very beautiful! Another one I like for water marble education has been simple pleasures. She's done A Lot of them! :)

    1. I've watched hers! She's great. I'm just not very good at it. My go-to is toothpick marbling. I'm the toothpick marble queen! LOL!
