13 Days of January Nail Art Challenge: Recreate Your Old Mani - Simple Dotticure

Nothing to Disclose

Today we continue the 13 Days of January Nail Art Challenge. It's just a shortened version of Crumpet's Nail Tarts January 31 Day Challenge for those of us too busy for the full one. We will be posting on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays throughout January.

13 DAYS OF JANUARY NAIL ART CHALLENGE

This prompt is "Recreate Your Old Mani" and since this simple dotticure is oddly one of my most popular manicures and since it's well...simple, I ran with it! I'm not sure why, after over 2 years it's still one of the most popular ones unless it's because it IS simple. And it's using 2 drugstore brands.

For this mani I used Sinful Colors 24/7 and Milani Hipster Plum. Without top coat above.

And with top coat below...

The original was my birthday mani from 2012 and I used Sinful Colors Neon Fusion, which I couldn't locate quickly, hence the 24/7. I even tried to use the same pose!

Side-by-side...

13 Days of January Nail Art Challenge: Inspired by Pinterest - Dotticure

*These products are Cruelty Free

Today we continue the 13 Days of January Nail Art Challenge. It's just a shortened version of Crumpet's Nail Tarts January 31 Day Challenge for those of us too busy for the full one. We will be posting on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays throughout January.

This prompt is "Inspired by Pinterest" - This is a mani I pinned quite a while back on my "Manis I'd Like to Try" board but never got around to trying...until now! Laurie over at Dressed Up Digits did this mani in black and white.

13 Days of January Nail Art Challenge

I used Nails Inc. Tavistock Street for the grey and Elevation Polish Mount Ventoux for the yellow. I've always loved this color combo! I got a little to anxious and grabbed the wrong bottle of top coat and promptly smeared my ring finger. Oops! READ THE LABEL!

And now that I see them together (Laurie's mani is below) I can see I did it totally backwards! Story of my life!

Be sure to check out the other great manis from the other nail artists in the links below!

13 Days of January Nail Art Challenge - Reversed Polarities

Press Sample

Today we continue the 13 Days of January Nail Art Challenge. It's just a shortened version of Crumpet's Nail Tarts January 31 Day Challenge for those of us too busy for the full one. We will be posting on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays throughout January.

This prompt is "Reversed Polarities" and I totally did NOT understand the prompt at all. I started to be a smart alec and paint an electrical outlet on my accent nail and call it good, but cooler heads prevail...or so they say.

So first, I did my best at interpreting it and came up with a dotticure I thought fit the bill...

I used Zoya Taylor and Emelia (both press samples) and did a simple dotticure.

And THEN I find out that reversed polarities means reversing the "typical colors" - for example, blue grass and green sky. So I came up with this.

I used Pipe Dream Polish VIP Pass as my base for the "sky" (purchased by me) with a black sun and white grass and plant.

My inspiration was this great mani from jamylyn_nails on Instagram. I just changed up the colors. (By the way, if you don't follow her - you are missing out - she's AMAZING!)

The Digit-al Dozen Spooky Days: Day 2 - Double Double Toil and Trouble

Nothing to Disclose

Double Double Toil and Trouble
Halloween Manicure

halloween-nail-art-dry-brush

What's spookier than the witch scene of Macbeth?

    Thrice the brinded cat hath mew'd.
    Thrice and once, the hedge-pig whin'd.
    Harpier cries:—'tis time! 'tis time!
    Round about the caldron go;
    In the poison'd entrails throw.—
    Toad, that under cold stone,
    Days and nights has thirty-one;
    Swelter'd venom sleeping got,
    Boil thou first i' the charmed pot!
    Double, double toil and trouble;
    Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
    Fillet of a fenny snake,
    In the caldron boil and bake;
    Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
    Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
    Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
    Lizard's leg, and owlet's wing,—
    For a charm of powerful trouble,
    Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
    Double, double toil and trouble;
    Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
    Scale of dragon; tooth of wolf;
    Witches' mummy; maw and gulf
    Of the ravin'd salt-sea shark;
    Root of hemlock digg'd i the dark;
    Liver of blaspheming Jew;
    Gall of goat, and slips of yew
    Sliver'd in the moon's eclipse;
    Nose of Turk, and Tartar's lips;
    Finger of birth-strangled babe
    Ditch-deliver'd by a drab,—
    Make the gruel thick and slab:
    Add thereto a tiger's chaudron,
    For the ingrediants of our caldron.
    Double, double toil and trouble;
    Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
    Cool it with a baboon's blood,
    Then the charm is firm and good.

For this mani I used a base of Kiko 327, one of my favorite grey cremes. I dry brushed black over all the the accent nail where I did a simple "dotticure" with black and Zoya Rocha. Matte top coat on all but the accent nail.

Nail of the Day: Yellow and Grey Dotticure with Elevation Polish

Nothing to Disclose

Today I have a manicure I did in support of a friend. She's got a big day today and several of her friends got together and decided to do yellow polish in support of her.

She HATES yellow polish. Probably more than I hate, say...broccoli? But she's got just the type personality to understand that all of her friends wearing the thing she hates most is the best way we can show our support. She's quirky like that. And I wouldn't have her any other way. If she thought we were approaching sappy in any way, she'd run!

Grey and Yellow Dotticure

I used Elevation Polish Mount Ventoux, the only yellow I've ever found that didn't hate me! The grey is Elevation Polish Shilin Stone Forest and it's overtaken Toubkal as my favorite Elevation Polish EVER,

Happy Thursday!!!

The Lacquer Legion: Adoration

Nothing to Disclose

The Lacquer Legion
Adoration

I'm excited to be participating in the Lacquer Legion challenges, put together by Chalkboard Nails Rebecca Likes NailsThe Nailasaurus, and Work/Play/PolishThis month, the theme is adoration. If you want to participate, you can like The Lacquer Legion on Facebook and hashtag your posts on all social media with #LLadoration. Each month there will be a different theme and hashtag.

The theme is always open for your own personal interpretation and since I can't draw my dogs on my nails and I've done the Scottish flag more than once, I decided to make this mani a more loose interpretation and just show you 1) the polish brand I adore most (Elevation Polish) 2) the color combo I adore most and 3) my favorite type of nail art - easy, cute and anyone can do it - "dinosaur dots." I thought about trying coffee/coffee beans, but I really wanted to use THIS polish.

There are a couple more things you might notice. I'm holding a TARDIS. Yeah, Whovian all the way here! And the violet purple polish is Elevation Polish XXH-14, which you recently saw here on the blog when I received a decant of it from a really sweet reader. It's so special to me.

So for this mani, I used Elevation Polish Sample XXH-14, Elevation Polish Pic de Sotllo (the royal blue) and Nails Inc. Chalk Farm.

GOT Polish! Golden Oldie Thursday: Dots - Starring Illamasqua

Nothing to Disclose
*These products are Cruelty Free

I have a serious problem in that I am always looking for that NEW polish fix when I have so many lovely polishes languishing in the drawer...polish I love enough to save them from purges or the donation box. And yet I don't wear them!

So when Debbie over at The Crumpet put together the GOT Polish Challenge, I was all for it! GOT stands for Golden Oldie Thursday - we pull out a polish that's a year old or older that we haven't worn. This Thursday is dots! So I've pulled out 3 Illamasqua polishes for this one...Stance, Faux Pas and Fern.

Nail of the Day: Gradient Dotticure

Nothing to Disclose
*These products are Cruelty Free

Happy Hump Day! My NOTD today is an extension of my manicure yesterday..and the day before.

I started out with one of my favorite Nails Inc. polishes, Devonshire Row. The following day, I did a quick gradient over it with Nails Inc. Baker Street. And today I decided to "dot it up" a bit.

Great way to extend a mani AND practice various nail art techniques! What do you think? I practice my stamping this way too - on my existing manis. And if it doesn't work, well you were going to change it anyway, right?

Are You Dotticure-ious? Weekend Collaboration Post

A bunch of us bloggers got together for a weekend collaboration: "dotticure" or a dotting tool manicure.

I'm not very creative, so naturally mine is just dots but...avec les poils de chien. (with dog hair) LOL!

I used Nails Inc. St. John's Wood, Milani White on the Spot and Color Club Jackie-Oh. The first photo is the most color-accurate. St. John's Wood is one of those periwinkle blues/purples that I find almost impossible to capture. And please excuse the dog hair. I'm not sure what happened!
