The Digit-al Dozen Spooky Days: Day 2 - Double Double Toil and Trouble

Nothing to Disclose

Double Double Toil and Trouble
Halloween Manicure

halloween-nail-art-dry-brush

What's spookier than the witch scene of Macbeth?

    Thrice the brinded cat hath mew'd.
    Thrice and once, the hedge-pig whin'd.
    Harpier cries:—'tis time! 'tis time!
    Round about the caldron go;
    In the poison'd entrails throw.—
    Toad, that under cold stone,
    Days and nights has thirty-one;
    Swelter'd venom sleeping got,
    Boil thou first i' the charmed pot!
    Double, double toil and trouble;
    Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
    Fillet of a fenny snake,
    In the caldron boil and bake;
    Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
    Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
    Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
    Lizard's leg, and owlet's wing,—
    For a charm of powerful trouble,
    Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
    Double, double toil and trouble;
    Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
    Scale of dragon; tooth of wolf;
    Witches' mummy; maw and gulf
    Of the ravin'd salt-sea shark;
    Root of hemlock digg'd i the dark;
    Liver of blaspheming Jew;
    Gall of goat, and slips of yew
    Sliver'd in the moon's eclipse;
    Nose of Turk, and Tartar's lips;
    Finger of birth-strangled babe
    Ditch-deliver'd by a drab,—
    Make the gruel thick and slab:
    Add thereto a tiger's chaudron,
    For the ingrediants of our caldron.
    Double, double toil and trouble;
    Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
    Cool it with a baboon's blood,
    Then the charm is firm and good.

For this mani I used a base of Kiko 327, one of my favorite grey cremes. I dry brushed black over all the the accent nail where I did a simple "dotticure" with black and Zoya Rocha. Matte top coat on all but the accent nail.

Zoya Ultra PixieDust Collection for Fall 2014 - Swatches and Review

*These products are Cruelty Free

Today I have the newest collection of Pixies from Zoya to show you. This is a trio of "Ultra PixieDust" which is like the first set of Pixies in that the polishes are all tone-on-tone, but also like the Magical Pixies in that they all have large hex glitters. Of course they are textures, like the others.

Zoya MatteVelvet Re-Issues - Swatches and Review

Nothing to Disclose
*These products are Cruelty Free

Good morning! Today I have some swatches for you of the 4 MatteVelvet polishes being re-released by Zoya. I did these swatches quite a while back, but I never posted them because, well, they were discontinued and I didn't want to send people scrambling for something not easily found. I also did swatches of some of the others (cough *Harlow* cough) but today I just have the 4 that ARE easily available now from Zoya.com. Of course they are limited edition, so if you want them, now is the time!

Zoya MatteVelvets

These polishes (still 5-free and cruelty free) are matte finish polishes that are so popular right now. It's no surprise that they've been resurrected for this holiday season! The only surprise is that the most popular one, Harlow, isn't among them. Of course Harlow wasn't part of this original collection and it's not necessarily as "winter" as these. But maybe they will bring it back one day. One can hope!

Because these are matte finish, they are formulated to be worn without a base coat or a top coat. They dry very quickly and do NOT like to be over-manipulated. Plus, if you have imperfections, they will definitely show with these polishes. If you'll notice in my photos, you can see the ridges in my nails.

Drop and Run Swatch - Sinful Colors Leather Loose

Nothing to Disclose
*This brand is now owned by Revlon
who is no longer Cruelty Free

Quick drop and run swatches of Sinful Colors Leather Loose, one of the new Leather Luxe Collection...with and without top coat.

NOTE: these do not like Poshe top coat - I will need to try a plain top coat. It sort of "wrinkles" after it dries.

This is what it did...

KBShimmer Fall 2013 Collection - Swatches and Review

*These products are Cruelty Free

You may have seen the press release this morning and even some swatches already but as promised, I have all seven of the new KBShimmer Fall 2013 Collection for you now!

Here's what KBShimmer had to say:

KBShimmer is excited to announce the addition of seven new fall colors to their 3-Free glitter polish line. Owner Christy Rose says “With a bit of chill in the morning and school buses out in force, I can’t help feel that fall is almost here. I am ready put away the neon and embrace the warmer, softer tones that accent the feeling of Autumn.”

“The fall KBShimmer line up has a bit for everyone, from the glitter lover to those that want a more subtle look.” says Rose. “We are again expanding our matte line with both a fun cranberry red, and a blue toned gray. For those that love the look of jelly polishes, we offer three versions in black, red, and a blue with hints of purple. A white crelly, and a unique teal with heavy pink shimmer completes the new collection. We think this is our most diverse collection yet, and the perfect start to the season.”

Dandy Nails Waste Away With Me - Swatches and Review

Personal Collection
*This product is Cruelty Free

Good evening. (Yes I said that in my best Alfred Hitchcock voice. I have no idea why.)

Tonight I have another from Dandy Nails' newest collection to show you - Waste Away With Me. In case you missed my other posts of her newest polish release, you can click the links here: Sticky Sweet and Betrayed Desires.

Dandy Nails Waste Away With Me

Waste Away With Me is a suede/matte finish cornflower blue - or maybe even periwinkle because with the pink shimmer inside (which comes alive with top coat) it reads more periwinkle. I'm not entirely sure of all the "ingredients" in this one but I *think* I see blue micro-flecks, hot pink/fuchsia micro-shimmer and even some scattered micro holo particles. Check out the macros and see if you can pick out everything. Application and formula were perfect and I have no issues to report at all. I used 3 light coats of this one and I have photos for you with and without top coat.

Sweetcheeks Polish Eric, Jerrica and Jetta - Swatches and Review

Press Sample
*This product is Cruelty Free

Good morning! It's still rainy here, which makes me a happy gal. Hope you're happy too when you see the 3 polishes I have for you from Sweetcheeks Polish!

Sweetcheeks Polish is a hand-poured indie that is 3-Free and Cruelty Free. $1 of the proceeds from every polish sold will be donated to the Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association, VOKRA.

Eric, Jerrica and Jetta

Eric Based on Eric Raymond from the 80's TV show Jem and The Holograms. Eric Raymond is the main bad guy in the series, a greedy and manipulative music executive who initially runs Starlight Music at the time of Jerrica's fathers death. Handsome and extremely devious, he is a very smart and savvy (albeit dishonest) business man and will do almost anything to sabotage Jem and the Holograms, even trying to kill them!

Eric Raymond is a snake in a suit. This polish looks black in the bottle, but is actually a shade of browny/green, so it looks like a snakeskin. You can get full coverage on it's own, but put it over black and the snakeskin really pops!

I used 3 coats of this one alone without top coat first and then with one coat of Poshe top coat. I had no issues at all with this one and I loved it both matte and shiny!

First, without top coat...

JerricaJerrica is from the TV show Jem and The Holograms. Jerrica Benton inherited both Starlight Music and Starlight House from her late father Emmett Benton. Using the power of Synergy, Jerrica can become Jem by touching her Jemstar earrings. Synergy's holograms maintain the illusion that Jerrica and Jem are two different people, especially to her boyfriend, Rio. Jerrica tends to compartmentalize her life and even occasionally shows jealously toward her own alter-ego, Jem.

Jerrica is a nude holographic polish. The holo is slightly understated, though still sparkly, as is Jerrica's nature.

First I used 3 coats of this alone and then I layered one heavy coat over Eric. No issues at all with this one.

JettaBased on Jetta from the 80's TV show Jem and The Holograms. Jetta became a Misfit when Stormer hears her playing the saxophone. Jetta is a conceited, pathological liar and has very sticky fingers! Extremely perceptive and stuck-up, Jetta almost immediately begins a rivalry with fellow Misfit Roxy.

Jetta had the most fantastic hair, so the majority of this glitter polish is black microbar glitter. There is some gunmetal glitter to match her saxophone (can't forget that - I played the same sax in school!) and small white hex glitter for her polka dots. There's also some iridescent glitter for that Misfit glow!

This is a glitter topper and I layered it over Eric and I even wore it one day as an accent nail over Zoya Bobbi. No issues with formula or application with this one either!

What do you think of these three? Which is your favorite? Mine has to be Eric. I love it with the "rubber" finish and with top coat. Just lovely!

The Nail Junkie Spring Pastel Line 2013

Good evening! Tonight I have The Nail Junkie's new Spring Pastel Line to show you! This line consists of three new matte pastels to go with Daffodil, Rose and Violet - the ones she released last spring! And just a hint - at the end, there's a link for a giveaway of these polishes!

This time we have Bluebonnet, Gardenia and Green Goddess.

The Nail Junkie Spring Pastel Line 2013

The formula and application on all three of these was great and I had no issues. I used two coats for full opacity and no top coat so the matte finish could shine, so to speak. The only thing I'd like to mention is that if you have any ridges or tears in your nails, buff them before applying polish. Any imperfections you see in the photos aren't the polish but imperfections in my nails that I didn't buff out.
