Nail of the Day: Missoni-esque Toothpick Marble

Nothing to Disclose

I'm working on swatches of a couple of great collections for you, but in the mean time, I did a quick toothpick marble. They're fast and easy and when I have to run out of the house, I prefer not to go out with a mismatched mani. Or one hand done and the other nekkid. LOL! Not that I haven't done it before.

I didn't start out to do a "missoni-esque" mani but when I finished, that's what it reminded me of...in a more abstract sort of way.

For these quick toothpick marbles I start with just bare nails, instead of a base color. Here I've used Salon Perfect Flamingo Flair, Zoya Dove, Nails Inc. Paddington and Wet n Wild WildShine Black Creme.

Of course, you can take more time and care and make it look more orderly, but they're so quick and easy, I tend to just slap them on and go. I sort of like the randomness of it.

If you missed the tutorials I've done you can find the one for the photo below here.

And the one for the one below on Nail It.

Stay tuned for some awesome collection reviews coming soon right here!

Nail of the Day: Yep - Another Toothpick Marble!

Nothing to Disclose

I posted on IG last night that people were going to start thinking I got a deal on bulk toothpicks! But I posted with no top coat or clean-up so here's the final look for today.

Toothpick Marble Nail Art

I'm wearing camel capris and a navy blouse so I'm being all matchy-matchy today.

I used Nails Inc. Southwark and Nails Inc. Caramel on top of bare nails with one coat of top coat. Smeared the pinkie a bit, but you can't really tell at arm's length.

Have you tried this technique yet?

Nail of the Day: Above the Curve - Lemming Have It

*These products are Cruelty Free

I'm not having the best week - major changes are coming at me like a train and I've pretty much made myself sick over it, so today I thought I'd show you a really pretty polish I put on to cheer me up. Short and sweet.

Above the Curve
Lemming Have It

Lemming Have It is my favorite sort of holo - it's a "tightly scattered" or "loose linear" - just perfect. And the purple is a lovely medium shade that has enough blue in it to almost make it a blurple. Two coats and no top coat for the photos. No issues with formula or application. Perfection.

Isn't it lovely? So now I have happy hands. And the name is so cute. I've never much cared for people calling highly sought after polishes lemmings...not sure why. Technically, if we wanted to use lemming, the seeker would be the lemming. However, in recent weeks I've seen ill-informed articles calling the seekers of polish lemmings and that is so much worse and just not how the polish community has bastardized the word at all. If they're going to get it wrong, they should get it wrong the RIGHT WAY! LOL! Anyway, I'm a sucker for a great play on words so this one is cute.

Above the Curve polishes are available on their Big Cartel shop here and their Etsy shop here.  And now they are also available at Overall Beauty! You can also follow Above the Curve on Facebook here  and Overall Beauty on Facebook here to stay up-to-date on availability, new collections, promos, etc. The BEST part? $1 of every bottle sold goes to Shriner's Hospital for Children! Full-sized bottles retail for between $8.50 and $9.00.

Nail of the Day: Nails Inc. Walton Street

Nothing to Disclose
*This product is Cruelty Free

Buenos Dias! Today I'm wearing Nails Inc. Walton Street as my NOTD.

It's a lovely pink/purple berry shade that right at that in between shade where I have a hard time describing it. It's a perfect creme - self-leveling, smooth formula. Typical Nails Inc. that I love!

Walton Street

Varying levels of artificial lighting... (as always, no flash and no color-adjusting...just closer to/farther from the lighting source.)

Of course Nails Inc. is a UK company and widely available there, but here in the US, with most Sephora stores not carrying it anymore, it's now supposed to be available at Ulta. I haven't been by there to check though.

One of my go-to brands!

Have a great day!

Dior Junon #494 - Nail of the Day

Nothing to Disclose
*This product may NOT be Cruelty Free

Just a quick Nail of the Day post - I'm going to drop and run!

Dior Junon #494

Junon is one of the new "gel-effect" polishes from Dior. I didn't initially grab this one because I thought it was more blue than grey. I did pick up five others though. If you missed that post click the link in the photo caption below.

Dior GelShine Spring 2014

But when my friend Alison assured me it was MY color - more grey than blue, I decided to order it (from Nordies) yesterday. Yes, YESTERDAY. And it came in today! Free shipping and so FAST? Yeah, I've loved Nordstrom for a long time, but they really impressed me this time.

Nail of the Day: Illamasqua Obsess

Nothing to Disclose
*This product is Cruelty Free

Illamasqua
Obsess

Illamasqua Obsess is a super bright fuchsia pink creme that dries to a nice semi-gloss - I think because it's almost neon. I actually prefer that finish myself, but my guy loves super shiny so I wore it with a top coat. Superb formula and application. No issues at all to report. Two coats and one coat of top coat for the photos (except where indicated). I *think* this one is from 2011.

Extend-A-Mani: Mickey and Minnie Nail Art

Nothing to Disclose
*These Products are Cruelty Free

Extend-A-Mani
Mickey and Minnie Nail Art

Just a quick Nail of the Day/Extend-A-Mani post for you today while I finish swatching some other beauties for you!

I was wearing Kiko #240 Apple Red so I decided to do a little nail art to extend my mani! I chose Mickey and Minnie just because it seemed like the perfect red and it's something simple and quick.

I used Wet n Wild WildShine Black Creme for the frame on the pinkie, the bow and the mouse ears on the thumb and Salon Perfect Sugar Cube for the dots and other accents.

Cute as a button, right? And easy to do with just a dotting tool and striping brush.

Nail of the Day: piCture pOlish Hot Lips - and a Watermelon Comparison

Nothing to Disclose
*This product is Cruelty Free

piCture pOlish
Hot Lips

Hot Lips is a very saturated hot pink neon crelly that dries shiny rather than the typical semi-gloss neon finish. Three light coats with no top coat. And it's more neon in person. I would say that my camera hates neons but I have a sneaking suspicion I just haven't figured out how to photograph them properly.

Nail of the Day: Illamasqua DWS

Nothing to Disclose
*This product is Cruelty Free

I just have a quick Nail of the Day - Illamasqua DWS. This is not a new polish - 2010 I think? But it was the perfect grey for the rainy, cloudy day. Of course that means that I couldn't get natural light pics.

It dries super shiny, but I wore it with a coat of butter LONDON Matte Finish top coat.

The formula and application are typical Illamasqua perfection. Smooth and creamy - two coats. There's not a hint of brown in this grey - you can see the blue undertones in natural light, but it's definitely the perfect grey for the overcast skies we had here in South Texas today!

What do you think? I just love greys like this.

Illamasqua polishes are available at illamasqua.com in the UK but you can get them at Sephora and some larger department stores like Bloomingdales and they retail for $17 here in the States.

Nail of the Day: Chanel Fantastic #481

Nothing to Disclose
*This product may NOT be Cruelty Free

Just a quick NOTD for you with Chanel Fantastic #481. This is an older one and I'm not sure where, other than places like eBay, you can get it anymore. But it's so pretty I had to show you.

It's just such a gorgeous shade of berry-burgundy and the shimmer is perfection. Two coats and no top coat for the photos.

I recommend grabbing this one if you see it for sale on blogs or eBay.

NOTD: Halloween Nail Art - Tattered Robes

Nothing to Disclose

Another quick Drop and Run post!

Halloween Nail Art
Tattered Robes

Nail art, thankfully, doesn't have to be fancy - just the "appearance of" usually does the trick. This is a quick and easy spooky stripe mani. I used Elevation Polish River Rock as the base and Pahlish Lady of Raynham Hall alone and mixed with a little white for the shredded robes. And I do love things that don't have to be "perfect," don't you?

Have a great Saturday!

Nail of the Day: Dior Ultra Violet #687

Nothing to Disclose
*This product may not be Cruelty Free

Dior
Ultra Violet #687

Dior Ultra Violet #687 was from the Limited Edition Anselm Reyle Collection from 2012 and it's a medium warm-toned purple creme with that famous Dior "hidden shimmer" but I did get it to come out and play a bit in the sunlight photos at the end - it looks to be blue and pink shimmer! Perfect formula and application.

Nail of the Day: Kiko 240 Apple Red

Nothing to Disclose
*This product is Cruelty Free

It's FRIDAY!!!! I just have a quick "drop and run" Nail of the Day for you today with Kiko 240 Apple Red.

Kiko 240 is called "Apple Red" by Kiko, but it's a medium blue-based cool-toned red creme. Formula and application are perfect - in keeping with all of the other Kiko cremes I've tried.

Two coats with one coat of Dazzle Dry top coat for the photos.

You can purchase Kiko polishes anywhere from £0.50 to £4.49 on their site here IF you're not in the US. They are based in Italy and ship all over Europe and the UK. Unfortunately, I don't know of any stocklists in the US who carry them. Ninja Polish has the Sugar Mats (textured collection) but for regular polishes? I'm still waiting!

Have a GREAT WEEKEND!

Extend-A-Mani with Dior Bengale and a Gradient

Nothing to Disclose
*Dior may NOT be Cruelty Free

I have a really quick Extend-A-Mani post today. I've been "poorly" as my mom would have said. Translation: feeling like crap - for a few days, so I haven't been doing much.

I think this one is REALLY simple and really pretty...I wore Dior Bengale for a few days and then I did a quick black gradient on the tips to cover tip wear.

Dior Bengale alone...

And with black gradient tips...

Happy Tuesday!

Nothing to Disclose
*This product may NOT be Cruelty Free

Happy Monday!!!

Today I'm still in stalker-mode - hoping that the new FNO Chanel polishes will show up on chanel.com or nordstrom.com or SOMEWHERE. Nothing yet.

So I pulled out Chanel Blue Rebel for my Nail of the Day - from the FNO Les Jeans Collection 2011.

Nail of the Day: Chanel Blue Satin #461

Nothing to Disclose

I just have a quick Nail of the Day post for you right now - working on some gorgeous new polishes to show you later today.

I've had Blue Satin for a while and I'm just now wearing it? Sometimes I wonder about me. I used to HATE dark polishes on short nails, but I'm loving it now - and it matched my blouse, so...

Nail of the Day: Kiko 315

Nothing to Disclose
*This product is Cruelty Free

I swear sometimes I wonder how I manage to stumble through life. I'm wearing a polish I've worn at least a dozen times and yet I've never posted swatches! But that's not the worst. I've taken swatch photos THREE times and still didn't manage to get it posted.

So tonight I AM posting it.

Kiko 315 "Dark Mauve"

Why it's called "Dark Mauve" I do not know. Loses something in the translation from Italian to English? Good thing they number them! But it's a warm-toned purple.

Two coats and one coat of Poshe top coat. Perfect, creamy, smooth formula. Perfection as are all of the Kiko cremes I've tried.

Curse Royal Mail! I'm not sure how I'm going to get my Kiko fix now.
