The Lacquer Legion: Yummy - Chips and Coca-Cola

Nothing to Disclose

Good morning, it's MONDAY (she said with pseudo-excitement) and today is the day the Lacquer Legion posts their Yummy manis (actual excitement) for you!

Every month, for one day, a bunch of us get together to post a themed mani. This month, it's today and the theme is Yummy.

Of course I wasn't paying attention, as usual, and I'd already posted my apple and pumpkin pie nails and melted chocolate nails so I was at a loss about what to do. Most people think of sweets when they think yummy. But while I like sweets just fine, salt is where my heart tummy is. Well, salt and coffee. But I just did coffee nails too! So what does that leave? I don't think I can draw bacon. Plus, what people all over the world call "bacon" looks vastly different.

So I went with two staples in the diet of any American: Chips and Coke! Specifically "crisps" for the Brits.

Turns out that potato chip I did on my tongue-in-cheek "Ruffles" mani was a fluke because I had issues drawing them this time but I post the good, the bad and the ugly, so here ya go!

Eh, I've done worse LOL.

I did get compliments on it. And it's certainly ME. When I don't have a cup of coffee in my hand, I have a Coke.  Dr Pepper (blech) might be 10, 2 and 4, but Coke is 24/7.

For this mani I used Zoya Sooki and Livingston (reds), Elevation Polish Pic de sotllo (blue) and for the chips, Elevation Polish Street Side NYC and Mount Ventoux.

Want to join in? Do a "yummy-themed" mani and post it using the hashtag #LLyummy! Head over to the Lacquer Legion Facebook page and Lacquer Legion on Instagram for more details.

The Lacquer Legion: After Dark - Spooky Midnight Smoke

Nothing to Disclose

I'm baaaaaaaaaaack! This time I have a spooky "after dark" manicure for The Lacquer Legion's prompt this month - #LLAfterDark!

The Lacquer Legion After Dark
Spooky Midnight Smoke

nail-art-spray-marble-halloween

I started with a base of Elevation Polish SBP: Salto dol Soldado and then did a quick spray marble using distilled water, rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and a plain black polish. Then I finished it off with a coat of the new Zoya Matte Velvet Top Coat.

This is what it looked like shiny...

If you would like to participate, just post your mani on social media with the hashtag #LLAfterDark! And be sure and search that hashtag to see all the other #LLAfterDark manis!

The Lacquer Legion: On Holiday

Nothing to Disclose

I'm excited to be participating in the Lacquer Legion challenges, put together by Chalkboard Nails Rebecca Likes NailsThe Nailasaurus, and Work/Play/PolishThis month, the theme is On Holiday. If you want to participate, you can like The Lacquer Legion on Facebook and hashtag your posts on all social media with #LLOnHoliday. Each month there will be a different theme and hashtag.

For this theme, I went quite literal. I'd exhausted my ideas for vacation destinations already for the upcoming Digital Dozen theme week - Countries and Cultures. So with passport in hand, a compass to guide me and a plane take me anywhere, the world is my oyster! (We'll just pretend I painted an oyster on my thumb nail, 'kay?)

For this manicure I used Elevation Polish Atop a Ferris Wheel (index), El Cap II (middle and pinkie) and Nails Inc. Chalk Farm (ring) - which was a mani I did for a comparison post. So I guess you could say this is really an Extend-a-Mani! The silver is Milani Flashy Silver and I just mixed Salon Perfect Sugar Cube with one of the blues for the lighter blue. The green is Illamasqua Smash and the black is Wet n Wild WildShine Black Creme.

Be sure and type in "#LLOnHoliday" today, June 30th, on all social media to check out all the other Lacquer Legion manis!

The Lacquer Legion: Garden Theme - Monet's Water Lilies

Nothing to Disclose

I'm excited to be participating in the Lacquer Legion challenges, put together by Chalkboard Nails Rebecca Likes NailsThe Nailasaurus, and Work/Play/PolishThis month, the theme is GARDEN. If you want to participate, you can like The Lacquer Legion on Facebook and hashtag your posts on all social media with #LLGarden. Each month there will be a different theme and hashtag.

For some reason, when I think of gardens, I think of Monet. So I decided to see how Monet's Water Lilies translated onto my nails...

Of course, I'm no Monet, but I was pleased with how they came out even though the color palette is a bit off.

---------------------------

I used a base of Zoya Marley, a small striping brush, acetone, a clean up brush and the following polishes:
Nails Inc. Tudor Way, Colors by Llarowe Blue Jeans & Beauty Queens, Liquor is Quicker and Candy is Dandy, Sinful Colors Exotic Green and Innocent, Salon Perfect Sugar Cube and Wet n Wild WildShine Black Creme.

The Lacquer Legion: Glam - Half Moon Mani

Nothing to Disclose

I'm excited to be participating in the Lacquer Legion challenges, put together by Chalkboard Nails Rebecca Likes NailsThe Nailasaurus, and Work/Play/PolishThis month, the theme is GLAM. If you want to participate, you can like The Lacquer Legion on Facebook and hashtag your posts on all social media with #LLGlam. Each month there will be a different theme and hashtag.

Glam has a different connotation for everyone and for me, it's the 30s and 40s when movie stars truly put forth a STAR image. So I chose a simple but elegant half-moon manicure. My nails aren't long enough yet to do the classic almond shape popular back then, but you get the idea.

I used Borghese Lira (gold) and Dior Diva. I free-handed the half moon and stamped on the accent finger.

Just check out Dior Diva close up! I love it!

The Lacquer Legion - LUCKY: Celtic/Gaelic Manicure

Nothing to Disclose

I'm excited to be participating in the Lacquer Legion challenges, put together by Chalkboard Nails Rebecca Likes NailsThe Nailasaurus, and Work/Play/PolishThis month, the theme is LUCKY. If you want to participate, you can like The Lacquer Legion on Facebook and hashtag your posts on all social media with #LLlucky. Each month there will be a different theme and hashtag.

The Gaelic word for luck or lucky is Sealbh and having Scottish and Irish heritage I've always been drawn to celtic, gaelic, basically anything Scottish or Irish and I feel very lucky to have been able to visit these places. I only hope I'm lucky enough to be able to move there someday. Retire there maybe?

As far as "luck" goes, I've always believed we make our own luck. Sure there is a right place, right time aspect to life but working hard, preparing, etc. certainly make one able to take advantage of those "lucky opportunities." But your heritage? Yeah, not a lot of control there - just lucky!

So for this manicure I used a base of Color Club Look, Don't Tusk with stamping on the index, ring and pinkie fingers in a celtic knot design with Illamasqua Smash - and a striping brush around the cuticle area with Smash. Not gonna lie - it's because I am really REALLY bad at stamping, so the "ruffian" was just to cover up the gaps. On the middle and thumb, I used a striper brush and acrylic paint for the shamrock, 4-leaf clover and words.

I've always loved the saying "If you're lucky enough to be Irish, you're lucky enough."

The Lacquer Legion: Adoration

Nothing to Disclose

The Lacquer Legion
Adoration

I'm excited to be participating in the Lacquer Legion challenges, put together by Chalkboard Nails Rebecca Likes NailsThe Nailasaurus, and Work/Play/PolishThis month, the theme is adoration. If you want to participate, you can like The Lacquer Legion on Facebook and hashtag your posts on all social media with #LLadoration. Each month there will be a different theme and hashtag.

The theme is always open for your own personal interpretation and since I can't draw my dogs on my nails and I've done the Scottish flag more than once, I decided to make this mani a more loose interpretation and just show you 1) the polish brand I adore most (Elevation Polish) 2) the color combo I adore most and 3) my favorite type of nail art - easy, cute and anyone can do it - "dinosaur dots." I thought about trying coffee/coffee beans, but I really wanted to use THIS polish.

There are a couple more things you might notice. I'm holding a TARDIS. Yeah, Whovian all the way here! And the violet purple polish is Elevation Polish XXH-14, which you recently saw here on the blog when I received a decant of it from a really sweet reader. It's so special to me.

So for this mani, I used Elevation Polish Sample XXH-14, Elevation Polish Pic de Sotllo (the royal blue) and Nails Inc. Chalk Farm.

The Lacquer Legion: Reinvention - Unconventional Shades of Valentine's Day

Nothing to Disclose
*These products are Cruelty Free

I'm excited to be participating in the first Lacquer Legion challenge, put together by Chalkboard Nails Rebecca Likes NailsThe Nailasaurus, and Work/Play/PolishThis month, the theme is reinvention. If you want to participate, you can like The Lacquer Legion on Facebook and hashtag your posts on all social media with #LLreinvention. Each month there will be a different theme and hashtag.

I was pretty excited to be participating in this and had several ideas in my head when I first heard about this. And then I got busy and, in true Sheila fashion, forgot about it completely. So I didn't have time to do any of the ideas I was excited about initially. Once again, flying by the seat of my pants, I came up with this quick and easy mani that sort of reinvents the common, classic heart for Valentine's Day using unconventional colors. Yeah, I'm not much of a pink-lover.

Unconventional Shades of Valentine's Day

I used a base of Oopsie Daisies Secret Admirer, which I was already wearing, and free-handed blue hearts and stripes using a-England Tristam with a few plain white accents.

I'll tell you what, I bet for the next challenge, I prepare and set a reminder on my phone! I can't wait to see what the next theme will be because I plan on killin' it!
