Pahlish June 2014 Duo: Vincent and the Doctor Duo: Fields of Provence and Brighter Than Sunflowers

*These products are Cruelty Free

I'd like to start this post off with an apology. And then a warning. Because my guest bathroom is the only room in the house without a window. Stay with me! First, I apologize for the delay in this post because I had to stop and clean the bathroom. Had. To. Because the polishes in this post react in black light. Since my guest bath is the only room in the house with no window, I had to take black light photos in there. Which brings us to the warning. NEVER, under any circumstances, take a black light into your guest bath.

Okay, so what do we have? Pahlish's June 2014 Duo! It's called Vincent and the Doctor and for all the Whovians out there, no explanation is necessary. It's my favorite Matt Smith episode and I just watched it again this past week with my visiting family (refer back to guest baths and black lights) because I'm trying to make little Whovians out of them.

If you're not into Doctor Who, think Vincent (as in Van Gogh) and Starry Starry Night and Sunflowers and Fields in Provence, for indeed these polishes are named Fields of Provence and Brighter Than Sunflowers.

When I first saw them just in the bottles I sort of scratched my head and then I put them on. WOW!

Fields of Provence is a rich, well-pigmented blue (almost a neon cornflower blue) shimmer creme polish with loads of gold micro-flakes. The formula was great and I have no issues to report. Two coats and one coat of top coat for the photos.

Artificial lighting...

Indirect natural lighting...

Brighter Than Sunflowers is a clear-based glitter topper full of gold shimmer/micro-flakes, light blue, neon yellow and black glitters in various shapes and sizes and stars in light blue and neon yellow. The formula on this one was perfect. The glitters were well-suspended in the base, which wasn't too thick or thin, and they spread easily on the nail. No fishing at all for glitters. Two coats over Fields of Provence with one coat of top coat for the photos.

Artificial lighting...

Indirect natural lighting...

And in black light, brought to you direct from my now-spotless guest bathroom...

I was truly blown away with this Duo. Not only is the inspiration my favorite Smith DW episode, but the polishes! The blue is great on its own but perfect with the glitter topper. I mean LOOK at it!

What do you think? Are you a Whovian? (If so, who is YOUR Doctor? And what's your favorite episode? - I'm nosy!) My Doctor is Tennant. *drool* er...I mean *grin*

  3. Must, must, must have these! Matt Smith is "my" Doctor... I love Tennant, but I start watching during Smith's era, so he'll always be my Doctor. In fact, this episode was the first episode that I'd ever watched and I was so moved that I had to watch more.

  4. I'm a huge Whovian too!! Matt Smith was my first Doctor so I'll always love him, but I also completely fell in love with David Tennant when I watched his series, so I'm a bit torn on the matter! Vincent and the Doctor is also one of my favourite Eleven episodes, so touching! <3

  6. These polishes definitely made me think of the episode - I'm loving the colors in the glitter topper!

I'm an Eccleston fangirl (who doesn't love a man who can dance?). Favorite episode would probably have to be Rose. It's not necessarily the best-written or most emotionally tugging episode, but I love the campiness of it. It's what got me hooked on Doctor Who!

  7. I got a good laugh out of your black light warning! I, too, am a bit of a Whovian. My sister dragged me in when the revival started, so Nine was my first Doctor. I still adore him, but I'm afraid Matt won my heart in his very first episode. I can't imagine a better tribute-in-polish than this fabulous set. Thanks for sharing!
