Chanel Hong Kong Collection: Eastern Light and Western Light

Today I have a new collection from Chanel to show you: The Hong Kong Collection. Well, I have most of it - the nail polishes. In celebration of the opening of a new boutique in Hysan Hong Kong, Chanel has released a Limited Edition 3-piece collection consisting of a new 5-pan eye shadow palette, Pearl River ($80) and two new nail polishes, Eastern Light and Western Light ($30 each) and I'll be showing you the nail polish, of course.

First up, Eastern Light. This is a straight chalk white creme polish that dries to a high shine. Not very original you say? Well that may be true but I think every brand should have a plain white creme and Chanel is no different. Not everything has to re-invent the wheel. I was prepared not to like this one, especially since I'm washed out and pale enough without drawing unnecessary attention to it by giving myself dead hands. But I use white quite often as a base for glitters and such and this one does have quite a great formula. What I like most about it is that it's self-leveling. It's so hard to find a good, opaque-in-two-coats, self-leveling white creme. This fits the bill. Two coats, no top coat.

Finally, Western Light. This one is a very dark blackened brown creme/shimmer that reminds me of dark roast coffee. The shimmer is much more apparent in the bottle than on the nail and 99% of the time this one reads black/brown but when the light catches it just right the red micro-shimmer peeks through. Again, not very original at first glance, but I do see it becoming a basic. The formula and application are fantastic and I used two coats and no top coat for the photos.

If you are expecting a WOW-Factor with these two polishes, you'll probably be disappointed, but again, there's nothing wrong with "the basics" - it's the $30 per bottle price tag for "the basics" that might be a bit of a problem.

What do YOU think? Will you add them to your collection anyway? Does the "Limited Edition Chanel" make the difference?

These polishes are available now at Chanel counters and on Chanel.com and retail for $30 per bottle.

If you enjoyed this post, please take a second to "like" it! Thanks!

  4. They are pretty, but for $60 I want a wow factor, not basic. I just can't see why these are so much...other than the Chanel name. And for that much they should tell everyone they are Chanel, lol.

  5. Well, a white creme with a great formula is a good thing, quality is good. But otherwise, Nope.

Thanks as always for showing us, though. You're so prolific.

  7. I really want to get my hands on Western Light, it looks lovely! I went to my local counter but they didn't have it. So I bought Rouge Noir instead :)

  8. Yeah, the formula is good, but $30 for a white cream? Sally Hansen White On is opaque in 2 coat as well, even in one if you are careful and do confodent strokes, and it costs what, 10 times as little? I remember liking the eyeshadow palette, though :)

  9. I like the colours, and I like Chanel, but I don't think I'll be buying these - I've got my basics (in other brands) already. I'm not sure what Chanel are adding here.

That said, I did buy a black Chanel polish back in about 2003, when black polishes were not that easy to find here in the UK.
