Chanel Tentation - Swatches, Review and Dupe Search

Chanel Tentation was the only one of the new Chanel Le Vernis colors I was comfortable ordering without swatching in person. The others - Distraction, Attraction and Frisson - I will just have to wait to see. I checked my local Chanel counter yesterday and they still have no idea when they'll be getting them in.

Tentation is described by Chanel as an "intense fuchsia" and that's a pretty good description. It's actually a cool-based red packed full of fuchsia/pink shimmer which does indeed give it an intense fuchsia appearance.

The photos are two coats with no top coat. Application was good, just as you would expect from a Chanel polish.

Someone asked how close Tentation was to Chanel Rouge Carat, so I did a quick comparison.

As you can see, they are totally different!

But as I wore Tentation throughout the day, I kept thinking I had something awfully similar.  So when I got home, I poked around my stash a bit and came up with a few to do comparison shots with.

As you can see, most of them aren't even close to being dupes.  There is one that is VERY similar though. OPI Peru-B-Ruby. It's the most similar in color AND finish.  As far as color, the Milani Speed Up Pink is the closest color match, but it has a sparkle rather than a shimmer and is a few more coats to get the color match.

They're not what I call dupes, but they're close. OPI Peru-B-Ruby is slightly darker and a smidge bit more on the red side of fuchsia than Tentation. They do have the same fuchsia/pink shimmer though. In this case, I'd choose Chanel Tentation. The formula is slightly better and Chanel is Cruelty-Free.

What do you think? Will you be getting this one? Or any of the new Chanel polishes?

  1. That looks fab on you! I'm not sure if I can rock the color, and I totally agree about the OPI... hmmm, I am going to need to swatch all 4 of these in person before making any purchases.

  2. It's a pretty color so I wouldn't mind having a dupe.

  6. Thank you for the swatch. I have it on hold along with Attraction at Neiman Marcus. I agree with you about loving Tentation without needing to swatch. lol! I will have to see how I feel about Attraction when I pick it up tomorrow.
