Deborah Lippmann Footloose and Almost Paradise - Swatches and Review

For some reason, I looked around and realized that I didn't own ANY Deborah Lippmann polishes! I had Razzle Dazzle once, but didn't really care for it so I gave it away. I decided it was time and ordered the Footloose and Almost Paradise Duo. The movie came out in 1984, the year I graduated from high school and it did bring back memories. I realize these were inspired by the 2011 re-make, which I couldn't bring myself to see, but still...

I have to admit, they are pretty and I LOVE the bottles.

First up, Footloose. I'd call this one a tomato red because it has lots of orange in it. I thought it was a creme, but it's more of a crelly, in my opinion - more on the jelly side than the creme side for sure. The application was decent, but it took three coats for full opacity. Shown with three coats and no top coat.

Comparison between Footloose and Essie Clambake:

Which brings us to Almost Paradise. This is a celery green creme. The formula is a bit goopy and it took three coats and I still had trouble getting it to even out - it's definitely not self-leveling. Notice the imperfections in the application. And I really did my best, which is usually pretty darned good.

Overall, I'm a bit disappointed. I'm not a jelly fan or a fan of three-coaters. Footloose is wearable, but I'm not sure how often I'll reach for it just because of the 3 coats it requires for full opacity. Those of you who love jellies and aren't opposed to a little VNL will adore it. I really LOVE the color of Almost Paradise, but I probably won't ever reach for it knowing what a fight I had with the formula.

It's a good thing I wore Mermaid's Dream first! The formula and application were fantastic on that one.

What do you think? Do you have them? Are the wonderful colors worth a bit of an application problem?

If you enjoyed this post, please take a second to "like" it! Thanks!

    1. I've added a comparison photo between the two! Clambake is a full-on jelly while Footloose is a crelly. Clambake is lighter and a bit brighter.

  4. Do you know if the new essie "Orange it´s obviouse" is a dupe for "Clam bake"? Because I don´t know which one of them I should get, and the new one is less expencive. Or maybe I want both of them..

I really like red-oranges such as essies "geranium". I only have gernaium and can´t decide between "clam bake" and "orange it´s obviouse"..

If you by any chance have all the 3 of them, please tell me how they differ.

    1. Sorry I don't. I have very few Essies left and I no longer buy them since I went Cruelty-Free. It wasn't my favorite brand to begin with so I got rid of most of the ones I did have.
