Revlon Foxy, Smouldering, Naughty & Scandalous Swatches Plus Chanel Paradoxal Comparison!

EDITED TO ADD: For an updated, in depth comparison of Naughty and Paradoxal, go here. =)

I ran across a brand-spanking new Revlon display at my local Walgreens this evening. It was up on the highest shelf, of course. After all, they MUST make room for all the $5 Gift Sets of lotions and such for Christmas. Oy.

I didn't notice the name of the collection. I was too busy climbing up on the shelves to reach these! There looked to be 16 new polishes. I think. Four rows and I think there were 4 colors on each row.

I picked up 4 of them that really caught my eye. Smouldering, Naughty, Scandalous and Foxy.

First up, Foxy. This is a rich chocolate color with lots of very fine micro-shimmer.

Next, Scandalous, which I'm pretty positive is a re-release of Facets of Fuchsia - fine and chunky hex fuchsia glitter in a sheer blackened base

Next, Naughty, which is a pretty close take on Chanel Paradoxal - Swatch test at the bottom of the post after the Revlon reviews!

And finally, Revlon Smouldering - this one is a silver shimmer BUT WAIT! It also seems to have a duo-chrome effect in the shimmer! I've tried every way possible with my limited photography skills to capture both color shifts to no avail. You can see the pink shift some in these photos, but it also shows GREEN in different lighting. In the last pic, I enlarged it so you can at least see some of the shimmer shifting green.

The application was really good on all four of these - Naughty and Foxy are probably one-coaters, but I always like to do two coats.  All are shown with two coats and no top coat.

Okay, now for the Chanel Paradoxal vs Revlon Naughty comparison photos! They aren't exact dupes, but they are definitely siblings - closer than cousins but not quite identical twins.

The shimmer seems to be the same and has the same glow, but as you can see the base colors are slightly different. the Chanel is a little more on the brown side while the Revlon pulls more toward a mushroom/taupe color.

This may be heresy, but I actually prefer Naughty over Paradoxal!

So what do you think?

Didn't I say the "drug store brands" were stepping up their respective games?

Not sure why the re-release of Perplex as Naughty or Facets of Fuchsia as Scandalous, but I'm not mad about it since I gifted Perplex and Facets of Fuchsia. I might be a little miffed if I brought home something I already had under a different name, though.

  1. I want Naughty! I hope it comes here! I have Paradoxal but I end up resenting it cause it chips so much and it was so expensive grrr

  2. I actually put on Naughty as my mani after I was finished swatching - instead of Chanel. I'll let you know how it wears!

  4. Don't get me wrong, Paradoxal is gorgeous and if the formula were a lot better, I'd probably still recommend that one, but the formula ISN'T better! Actually the opacity isn't the same either. Paradoxal took 3 coats rather than 2. I love me some Chanel as much as the next person, but, when it's not better, it's not. I call 'em as I see 'em. =) Definitely go pick up Naughty!

  5. First of all, FOXY IS AMAZING! Why do I not own this yet? And I tend to prefer the Revlon dupes, unless it is a sparkly color like Graphite, as they just couldn't capture the awesomeness in the Revlon dupe, Carbonite.

  6. You're right, Carbonite definitely is not a graphite dupe. But OPI Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous is - I did a post about it!

  7. They released them with new names because now they are in the permanent collection!
