Illamasqua Pink Raindrops - Swatches and Review

It's FRIDAY!!! Today I have the latest polish from Illamasqua to show you. Pink Raindrops.

PINK, you say? Well, yes. If you recall the original Raindrops, it was very popular and discontinued and has recently been brought back, along with Pink Raindrops, which is being touted as the "pink version" of Raindrops. Well before you get your hopes up, it's NOT. The formula is much different. I don't have the "new" Raindrops to tell if they've changed the formula, but you can see my original post on Raindrops here - the old version. It was at the least a very crelly 3-coater, if not more. I layered it over Zoya Dove for that post actually, because it was so sheer. I wore it alone on shorter nails.

Pink Raindrops is very opaque - it might even be a one-coater for some but I used two light coats. The formula is quite a bit thicker and it's not self-leveling at all, so extra care has to be taken for application. It's not the same perfect formula I've grown so used to with Illamasqua polishes. It does have those lovely flakes though! It's more of a nude with pink shimmer rather than a pink in my opinion.  Most of the photos are without top coat so you could see the true finish of the polish. The last photo shows it with one coat of Poshe top coat.

What do you think? Will you be getting it? Or do you have it already?

Illamasqua polishes can be purchased at the Illamasqua website here and some select shades are available in the US at Sephora stores. Pink Raindrops wasn't to come to Sephora however I have heard news that it probably will be now, so keep checking with them.

  1. This is pretty. For the cost, the formula should definitely be better though.

  2. the color is lovely but i agree, it's a thick, gloopy formula. i was thinking of adding thinner to mine (though for the price that shouldn't be necessary!!).

  3. I have it - I was surprised how different it is to the original Raindrops, but I do like it a lot. I agree the formula needs a bit of extra care too!

  4. Very nice! I want to want it, but baby pink always looks awful on my skin tone. I love it with your skin tone! <--- jealous

  5. Awww man! I know you said not to get too excited, BUT I DID! Lol This is not what I imagined when I read the post title! For some reason, I expected more of a powdery pink. The flakies look great! I just might get it after all, but what a let down! Boo-hoo! Thanks for the fab pics, of course!

  6. i really like it. Its not exactly like the original, but i think its kind of like raindrops on steroids! i do see the pink merits though, pink has such a wide color spectrum to go through, so when you hear pink, you never know what shade you are gonna get i suppose! i was really happy with it though, but I have seen a lot of people disappointed by it.

  7. I can see, why a lot of people are dissapointed with it: the name is really misleading. It's nothing like the original Raindrops. But on it's own, it's a beautiful polish! I like the original, use it offen, but not MAD about it, like some people out there: I like it very much, but it's still just a polish for me - not a cult. And I love Pink Raindrops. Your description of it is perfect: it's a nude, looking so noble, when applied. And the formula? - I tamed it: I thinned it down to the consistency I like AND NOW IT'S PERFECT! So, my advise: thin it down! Don't be afraid - it will go on soooo smoothely: you'll relly feel the difference! And for me, it is definetely a one coater!
