What's Your Favorite Nail Polish Shade?

Nothing to Disclose

♥

Everyone is always asking "What's your favorite color?" Well that's impossible to answer. For Clothing? Purses? Cars? It's different for everything. I wouldn't want a violet orchid car, after all.

And for nail polish? Well, that's nearly impossible as well because it depends on my mood, what I'm wearing, the weather, etc. And thankfully because there are SO MANY shades, we don't have to choose!

I love browns. And greys. And taupes! But if I just had to pick one that is my "favorite" more often than browns or greys are my favorites? Violet berry orchid. No, I do not mean purple. And no, I do not mean pink. Technically, it's between red-violet and purple but people get the wrong image in their heads when you say that, so I call it violet berry orchid. Pretty much most shades in the violet family are my favorites. But get one bit too much pink in it and I'm out. Or too much blue? Nope. I love almost ALL colors, but not all of them are my "favorite."

Basically

I've gathered up a few of my favorites in this color family...ones I didn't have to go into drawers and boxes for, that is.

And just a few photos I was able to grab easily from my pinterest boards.(You can check them all out in the link.)

Well that's mine! For now anyway.

Superficially Colorful: Giggly

Press Sample
*This product is Cruelty Free

It's FRIDAY!!!!!!

This morning I have a gorgeous polish to show you from an Israeli Indie called Superficially Colorful. A while back, I showed you a sneak peek of this one in one of my Bits and Bobs posts as my favorite mani of the week and I showed her first collection called Remnants of Winter here.

Well get ready. Giggly is stunning. And it's a thermal polish. Not only a thermal but a really GOOD thermal. I didn't have to stick my hands in ice water to make it change. The change is strong, like a gradient effect. And the maker has tested these for a really long time.

NOTD: NerdLacquer Eight Gates

Sorry to be showing you another great NerdLacquer that's not available, but since I still hold out hope that Amanda will return and since there are still blog sales, I thought I'd go ahead and show you my Nail of the Day: NerdLacquer Eight Gates.

Eight Gates is a great glitter polish with a semi-sheer violet pink base that looks like an orchid. The glitters are black, silver and white squares and hexes. I've used two coats alone with one coat of Poshe, but next time I believe I will layer it over a like-colored base for full opacity. Application was great and I had no issues - all glitters laid perfectly flat and I didn't need to dab or fish for any of them.

China Glaze Electra Magenta - Swatches and Review

China Glaze Electra Magenta is one of those yummy polishes from their Tronica Collection for Spring 2011. A collection I somehow missed! I'm not sure how that happened at all. I remember hearing about it ahead of time and then didn't really think of it again until I got Electra Magenta through a blog sale.  Now I'm determined to get some of the others! The formula and the *almost* linear (very tightly scattered?) holo remind me, oddly, of a-England's Tristam, Lady of the Lake and some of the new Legends Collection. Smooth, creamy...dreamy.

I've been hard-pressed to pin this color down in my head though, which is part of the reason this post is late. I've been staring at my nails all day trying to decide exactly what color it really is! I know it says Magenta right there in the name, but I'm not sure that's what I would call it.  At one point I thought maybe it was purple, then pink then berry...finally I *think* I found the word I'd been searching for. Orchid! Of course that still really doesn't help much in the color description. It's like a lighter version of OPI DS Exclusive.  One thing for sure - it's cool-toned.  So I'm going to say it's a cool-toned purplish-pink holo and leave it at that. You can judge for yourself when you see the photos!

Pretty sure it's a one-coater but I've been a serial two-coater for years, so I've used two coats and no top coat for these photos.

These aren't in stores anymore (unless you're in on a supply store or something) but you can still find them at a reasonable price on Amazon, at blog sales, etc.

There were 12 polishes in the collection.

3D Fantasy
Cyberspace
Digital Dawn
Electra Magenta
Gamer Glam
High Def
Hologram
Hyper Haute
Laser Lime
Mega Bite
Techno Teal
and
Virtual Violet

Tomorrow I'll be doing High Def, which is the stormy/cornflower/dusty blue. If I can force myself to take this one off!

Did you get in on these last Spring? Do you like them?

Also, don't forget to enter my Winter Giveaway if you haven't already!

Lazy-Person's Space Nails

I've tried Space Nails before and they were alright. Not nearly as good as I've seen some people do though. And for the trouble, I wasn't as impressed with my results as I felt I should have been for all that. So today, I did a quick layer of Orchid Starry Night over the Dior Perfecto I was wearing before I headed out to run errands I and WOW!  It's still not exactly as good as the others I've seen, but it was at least as good, or maybe better than my prior attempt.

This is one coat of Orchid Starry Night over Dior Perfecto.

I'll just let the photos do the convincing.

Ultimate Mushroom/Taupe Nail Polish Comparison Guide...8 Different Polishes!

Since any kind of mushroomy taupe color is my go-to color when traveling because it doesn't clash with anything, naturally I'm drawn to them and have more than I should. I started wondering how many are dupes. So I pulled most of them out (most that were similar in the bottle anyway. I have more that are clearly lighter and clearly darker I didn't use here) to do a comparison.

Here's what I used:

1. Chanel Particuliere
2. Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Steel Grey
3. NYC In a Minute Park Avenue
4. Orchid Ain't No Sunshine
5. Hard Candy Mushroom
6. OPI You Don't Know Jacques
7. China Glaze Below Deck
8. Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Commander in Chic

These are all cremes - no shimmers or sparkles in any of them.

Mushroom/Taupe Comparison

Mushroom/Taupe Comparison

As you will see in the photos, there are two of these that really aren't dupes for any of the rest.  Chanel Particuliere doesn't have the grey/purple undertones the rest of them have and China Glaze Below Deck has much more of a purple undertone than any of the others.

The definite true dupe for me out of all of these is Hard Candy Mushroom for OPI You Don't Know Jacques. You really can't tell the difference in appearance!  The difference I did note in the application was that the Hard Candy one is a little more pigmented, allowing you to get away with 2 light coats as opposed to the OPI, which needs three light coats or two heavier coats.  Since I was doing a quick comparison before I did my actual manicure, I haven't done clean up for the photos.

Hard Candy Mushroom and OPI You Don't Know Jacques

That leaves four.  These four are, for all intents and purposes, dupes.  Maybe not as perfect as the Hard Candy/OPI comparison, but for anyone without OCD, dupes, nevertheless.

These are Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Steel Grey, NYC In a Minute Park Avenue, Orchid Ain't No Sunshine and Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Commander in Chic. Of all of these, I'd say the Orchid was ever so slightly darker and needed one less coat than the others, AND was actually the easiest to apply. The problem with this, however, may be availability. While they are available for between $4.99 and $6.99 at my local H.E.B. Plus grocery store, I'm not sure they're available elsewhere. And I don't know how far outside Texas H.E.B. goes, if at all.  I hope that changes soon because they have a WIDE range of colors and finishes and very nice application.  Their brush is a mid-sized, semi-flat brush.  It's not the skinny, round brush of the NYC brand, but it's not as wide as the Sally Hansen or the Rimmel. It fits my nails perfectly. I think it might have just usurped my number one go-to polish, which was Rimmel Steel Grey. And it's 3-Free!

Mushroom/Taupe Comparison
And just for kicks, here are China Glaze Below Deck and Chanel Particuliere comparisons, too.

China Glaze Below Deck
Not sure how well you can tell in the photos, but the China Glaze Below Deck has more purple undertones than the others and the Chanel Particuliere has less of a purple or grey undertone than the others and is just a soft, less grey, less purple, very rich brown.

Chanel Particuliere

I've decided to wear Orchid's Ain't No Sunshine this week to test the wearability, chipping, tip wear, etc. I'll let you know how it fares!

Final color choice:  Orchid Ain't No Sunshine
Update: The Orchid polish wore pretty well. I had the normal tip wear because I type all day, but this mani lasted 6 days and was still going strong when I took it off. No chipping. My nails grow really fast and I get tired of the same color day after day, though, so 6 days for me with the same polish has to be some kind of record!

OPI Funky Dunky Accent

I was wondering how OPI Funky Dunky would compliment the Rimmel London Lasting Finish Pro Wild Orchid I was wearing, so I did an accent nail for comparison.  It is actually the same color - only about 3 shades darker.

Rimmel Wild Orchid with OPI Funky Dunky

Should have polished the edges to reduce tip wear, but I got lazy.  Oh well...live and learn.  As much as I type, I should always do the edges.

Layered with Orchid brand Starry Night glitter.
