Dior Les Violets Hypnotiques - Swatches and Review

I was so excited about this collection of Dior purples that I just couldn't wait until they arrived in the US. Thanks to  Bénédicte , I didn't have to - THANK YOU  Bénédicte! ♥ ♥ ♥

They're GORGEOUS in the bottles. But once I saw them in person, how dark they were, I kind of wish I'd waited. I still might have ended up with all of them, but I'm guessing Shadow is the only one that would have come home with me.

The formula on all three was typical Dior. Amazing.

First up, Dior Orchid. Orchid is a deep red-purple crelly. It applied easily and I used two coats. The photos aren't the best, but they are color accurate. I saw some AMAZING photos of all three of them prior to ordering. Stunning photos. But they showed them to their best advantage for sure and while gorgeous, weren't necessarily true-to-color. So I'm sacrificing quality for color accuracy here because that's what I would prefer.

Next is Dior Shadow. Shadow is the stand-out in this collection IMO. Formula is amazing and went on smoothly in two coats. It has a gorgeous shimmer that gives it that lit-from-within look. It's very hard for me to call this a purple, but I do have one photo (last one) in direct artificial light that shows the purple hue. You can see it in direct sun or with a flash, but mostly it just reads as a rich coppery brown. Still gorgeous though.

Here's the one showing that it is, in fact, a purple. Unfortunately it really doesn't look like this on - the other photos show what it looks like in most lighting.

And finally Dior Poison. Poison is very VERY dark purple creme. So dark it reads black on me so it will be relegated to my toes. But my toes will be happy! Application was great on this one as well and I used two coats. You can see the purple best in the last two photos under direct artificial light.

And last, my Les Violets Skittles...

I really don't know when these will be available in the US. I've heard July. I've also heard that one store *might* be getting them exclusively before that. Again, I don't know which store, but I'd guess maybe Nordstrom? Of course it's ALL conjecture on my part right now.

So what do you think of these? Will you be getting them?

If you enjoyed this post, please take a second to "like" it! Thanks!

  1. I prefer Zoya Pinta to Dior Poison BUT since I love the perfume........if only they had one that smelled like Dior Poison, well, it would be my first Dior! :/

I am really lemming Orchid now, though. That is *stunning* and I am closer to buying this rather than Chanel April, which I liked.

  4. Love the pictures and the post, and your nails are always beautiful! I also love Poison, the original fragrance. It was my first big purchase straight out of school when I got my first real job. I still ove this scent and would love if the polish smelled like the perfume. I also obsess and collect perfume as much as I do nail polish shocking I know. I've been waiting to buy some Dior polishes to add to my 600+ collection of polish. When I saw the add for them I knew without a doubt they would be my first, between the names, and the colors (purple is my favorite color ever) I knew without a doubt these would be my first Dior's. Hopefully with some help from a wonderful nail angel, I will be purchasing these. I know there has been talk about them looking too much alike and looking like dupes of others. But sometimes when you have been waiting so long to add a certain polish to your collection, and it ends up being a set of your favorite colors you just got to jump and buy. I'm pretty sure these will not be my last Dior's but I'm very excited over these being my first

  5. When you mention taking a moment to "like" your post, what do you mean? I'm new to blogging. On my Google Reader app on my iPhone I have a "like" or happy face icon, but I don't know if you ever know that I liked a post or whether that's just limited to my own Google reader account. I definitely want to "like" lots of your posts. Thanks!

    1. It's the Facebook "like" icon with the thumbs up pic. But I'm not sure you can unless you're viewing straight through my blog. I think networked blogs and the like have only a Google +1. But it doesn't matter! Just happy to have you as a reader! Anything you click as a sign of approval helps the blogger with Google crawling their sites, etc.

    2. Got it! Thanks! From now on, if there's a post I want to "like," I will go straight to the actual blog on my browser. It's not hard to do. Google Reader has a button to take me to the actual blog for any post I'm reading.

  6. These are some gorgeous purples. I'm partial to dark polishes so I like them all but I do agree that Shadow is the star of this collection. It's fab.

  7. These polishes look gorgeous, but for summer and spring time they are too dark.
