Chanel Spring 2013: Fracas and Accessoire

Received my Chanel order to brighten up my Monday! Of the three new Chanel Spring 2013 polishes I ordered only two: Accessoire and Fracas. I passed on Emprise because it was a sheer nude. I love nudes, but I have to see them in person and try them on because my pale skin looks horrible in most nudes. And I don't like sheer.

I do LOVE the other two though!

This will be a short post - just wanted to show them to you...

The formula on both was perfect and creamy. Easy application, two coats for full opacity. No issues at all. Shown in photos with NO top coat on either one.

I did a quick comparison because it reminded me of Chanel Madness when I first put it on. I've compared it here with Chanel Madness and Chanel Provocation.

Fracas - this one has a great pink shimmer but it's mostly visible in the bottle and not on the nail. You can see it some in the 5th photo...

Chanel Malice - Swatches and Review

Okay, okay...so I'm eating my words. But oh they are a black cherry, luscious mouthful.

I passed on Chanel Malice online. I passed TWICE when I saw it in person. The words? It's not that unique. It will be too metallic. (I hate metallic reds.) I have others that are close enough.I'm so happy that I picked it up this evening, though.

Malice is a blackened cherry Bordeaux kind of color with a strong inner glow. The formula is really good on this one and application was smooth and easy. I used two coats for opacity and one coat of Poshe as a top coat.

Dior Orchid Dupe?

For real? Well sort of - Kiko 243 came out first so I have a hard time calling IT a dupe of Dior Orchid and I'm not a fan of the word dupe - but in my opinion, unless you're in SUPER BRIGHT lighting - like 3 inches from the bulb - this one is 99%.

As I said, Kiko 243, Red Plum - The formula is the same crelly formula of Dior Orchid. Two coats for opacity, first one should be thin (and it looks like crap on both) and then a medium to heavy 2nd coat works magic. Both dry to a high shine (no top coat in any of the photos.) Orchid is only ever-so-slightly more purple and only under very bright/harsh lighting. Kiko has no hidden shimmer, of course, but the Dior is very hidden. So I'm sticking with my 99% dupe assertion.

What do you think? Are they close enough for you? I'm pretty picky and I CAN see the difference if I look VERY hard, but I'd say it works for me!

Kiko polishes are Italian and are readily available in France, Italy, the UK and several other European countries. Thankfully I have International friends. The last order I placed, they were £1.50 per bottle. Dior Orchid was limited edition and is currently available on Dior.com and a few other department stores (at the time of this post) and retail for $23 per bottle here in the US.

Pure Ice All Nighter - Swatches and Review

Another $1.97 polish that rocks my socks!  Pure Ice All Nighter is a great blackened red/burgundy with lots of red micro-shimmer. It's one of those "glows from within" polishes and it's a one-coater! I used two coats (out of habit) with no top coat for these photos.

Dior Apparat Swatches and Review

Back in September, I reviewed Dior Mervielle and  Dior Exquis but for some reason, I didn't feel the need to buy the other two polishes in Dior's 2011 Les Rouges Or  Holiday Collection, Apparat and Or Divin. Since then, I decided I needed Apparat and now can't for the life of me remember why it didn't call my name the first time around. Or the 2nd or 3rd, for that matter. (If I had to guess what finally made me buy it, though, my money would be on PeachPorn. For those of you not familiar with the term, there's a blogger, à la peach, who has THE most perfect hands/nails for modeling polish AND significant photographic ability to capture each color at its best with the perfect lighting, etc. Looking at her photos is like looking at porn. Hence "peachporn." Yes, I think I'm going to blame her.)

I always wonder how polishes get their names, and judging from the name of the collection, Les Rouges Or, and Dior itself, I assumed French and looked up Apparat. It means pageantry: grand or flashy display. Perfect! This is a medium burgundy with lots of brown undertones and is brought to life by the red and gold micro-shimmer packed within and if you look really closely, I think there's also some pink micro-shimmer too! It's a glowy, burgundy red that's perfect for the holidays.

As with all Dior polishes I've tried so far, the application was perfect and smooth. This one took two coats for full opacity. Actually, some could probably do it in one coat, but I use a second to even things out/wrap my tips. And I do love the cut of Dior brushes.

I am still learning and making friends with my camera so I still need to take more photos than someone more skilled would, but I do my best to capture the color and shimmer as they actually appear. Lighting is what I need to work on most. And I am working on it, I promise!

That just leaves one in the collection that I don't have and I'll probably leave it at that. As gorgeous as it is on some people, Or Divin isn't really "my" color.

Have you tried all 4 in the collection? Which is your favorite?

Sally Hansen Cinna-Snap Swatches

This Sally Hansen polish called Cinna-Snap is from the Insta-Dry line. It's a deep burgundy red (brown undertones) and goes on smoothly. It's not a jelly, but I'd call it a jelly-like creme for sure. It's mostly opaque in one coat, but takes a second to smooth things out properly. The first 3 photos are the most color accurate, but I've included some in different lighting.

Although I do like the wide brushes, this one is cut a little differently than ones like Dior, so as you can see, I do have a little cleanup I need to do. Which means I won't wear this one as often as some others I have just for that reason alone. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as some.
