China Glaze Hyper Haute vs OPI DS Extravagance

I've been asked whether China Glaze Hyper Haute from the Tronica Collection is a dupe for OPI DS Extravagance. It is NOT. However there are several differing opinions apparently. Which leads me to believe that either I have the incorrect definition of "dupe" or THEY do. To me, a dupe is a duplicate that is so close it's virtually impossible to tell them apart. But maybe I'm wrong?

Whichever is the case, IMO, China Glaze Hyper Haute and OPI DS Extravagance are definitely NOT dupes. The ones who seem to say that they are dupes in their blogs never seem to have photos, so to settle it once and for all, here are a few shots.

YOU be the judge.

So, if these are dupes to you, we have a different opinion of what "dupe" means.

What's YOUR definition?

  2. ChG looks more linear, as well as obviously lighter.

  5. Not dupes! Love them, though. I have the DS, think I'll have to be satisfied with that, though. Thanks for the comparison!

  6. While they are in the same color family, these are definitely not dupes. They are similar, but only because they are both berry colors with similar finishes. Thanks for the post!

  7. Not even close to dupes! Both beautiful though!

  8. My definition of dupes is the exact same as yours, so no, these aren't dupes. But they're both pretty :)

  9. A lot of people use "dupe" too lightly these days, I think. If something is close enough to kill a lemming, maybe, they seem to use it, rather than reserve it for true "duplicates".

These are both beautiful, but very different. I could probably live with just having one, but I sure wouldn't call them dupes.

  11. I completely agree with you- those are not dupes! Gorgeous polishes, and I wouldn't feel the need to own both, but definitely not dupes. To me, dupes are things like Chanel Jade vs. Milani Dress Maker.

  13. They're like sisters, very similar features and characteristics and both beautiful, however they are obviously not twins.

  14. Not dupes in my book, either. But both very beautiful! :-)
