Dior Liquorice - Swatches, a Dior Shadow Comparison & Happy BDay to Me!

I've had Dior Liquorice on my wishlist for a while, but the prices on eBay are outrageous. Thankfully, I have amazing friends! I was totally shocked that a UK friend of mine, Kim over at The Ides of Polish Blog, actually tracked it down and sent it to me for my birthday! Along with a generous supply of Maoam Candy!

Dior Liquorice

Naturally I couldn't wait to put on Dior Liquorice! Typical Dior formula - perfection. Two coats for opacity - no top coat. It has the older brush - still wider, flat and cut well, but not tapered at the end. I actually prefer the older, still flat brush.

And I was asked several times how it compares to Dior Shadow (previously reviewed here as part of my Les Violets Hypnotiques review,) so I snapped a few comparison shots...

My birthday isn't until next Tuesday and already I've had the most wonderful birthday month ever!

So what do you think? If you've been after Liquorice, do you think Shadow will fill the hole?

Purple Comparisons

I love purple and I have so many more purples than I will ever be able to do a comparison post on, but getting Dior Ultra Violet and several people asking me if it was close to Dior Purple Mix spurred this one, so I'll be comparing those two and other somewhat similar purples.

First up Dior Purple Mix. I don't really have any "dupes" of this one, so I've compared it with the closest ones I have, which you can see aren't really very close. Purple Mix and Ultra Violet DEFINITELY aren't close.

Here I've used Pure Ice Purple Reign, Pure Ice Kiss Me Here, Dior Purple Mix, Dior Shadow (and Dior Ultra Violet for reference.)

Next I compared Dior Ultra Violet with 6 other purples. There are two colors in particular that some would consider "dupes." For those of us who are true lacquerheads, I wouldn't say there's a 100% dupe though. Sinful Colors Amethyst and Finger Paints Beach Bound are as close to being dupes as I have and after the nail wheel swatches, I'll show you hand comparisons with those two. (I dropped the nail wheel just as I finished up the 2nd coat of all the polishes - wet polish side down of course - so please excuse any imperfections. None are the fault of the polish - they're the fault of the klutz, MOI!)

For this comparison I used Orly charged Up, Illamasqua Faux Pas, Sinful Colors Amethyst, Finger Paints Beach Bound, Zoya Mira, Dior Ultra Violet and Nails Inc. Westminster.

So there you have it! As I said, there are SO MANY more purples I could compare, but without a starting point or something spurring it on like a question or stumbling on a dupe, these will have to do for now.

Do you accidentally end up with dupes? Do you have any of these?
