CrowsToes ValenCrow Collection 2015: Swatches and Review

ValenCrows 2015 Collection

Pretty soon, Valentine's Day will be upon us and I have to say, it's not one of my favorite holidays. I've found a kindred spirit in Lauri, the Head Crow herself. So I always look forward to what she comes up with for The Day. The collection is called ValenCrow and the names of the polishes are great! Catch me after the jump for my swatches and review.

So let's start with my favorite...

The Terminal Engagement - this one is described by the maker as "a murky gun metal blue grey with copper sparks & shimmer." That's a pretty good description but I'm calling it a blackened slate blue crelly base with tons of color-shifting shimmer. The shifts are predominantly from gold to green to copper but the sparks are pink and copper and it's just more amazing in person that a photo can convey. No issues with formula or application. Two coats with one coat of top coat for the photos.

Hooker @ Heart - this one is a hot neon pink texture polish with a generous helping of holographic micro-glitter. It dries down to a matte finish but you must use thin coats and wait until dry between coats. I've used 3 coats without top coat and then with top coat. It's also put-yer-eye-out-orange in blue light!

And how cool is this in blue light! I believe it's bright pink in black light but I didn't have one of those...

And with top coat...

My Knight in Shining Armour Rusted - this one is tarnish gold shimmer that's not quite a metallic - with what might be micro-flakes? Flecks? Whatever they are (not really glitter) they are predominantly copper but they have a shift as well. You can see in the macro a violet and a yellow gold to green shift. No issues at all with formula or application. Two coats with one coat of top coat.

Next up is the Duo.

Hurt Me Once and I'll Kill You Twice - this one is a rich, cool-toned red jelly/crelly. Formula was great and the finish was so squishy! I'll have a jelly sandwich for you showing opacity down-post. This is 4 light coats and no top coat.

Sweet as Sugar, Cold as Ice - this one is a clear-based topper full of iridescent glitters in small and micro along with holographic micro-glitter/shimmer. This can be layered over any color really, but it's the other half of the Duo with Hurt Me Once and I'll Kill You Twice so I've layered it over that for you. One coat with one coat of top coat for the photos. Check out the iridescent glitters in the shade!

And as a bonus, I thought I'd do a jelly sandwich since I had a proper jelly to work with that isn't a stainer! I used 3 light coats of Hurt Me Once and I'll Kill You Twice, one coat of CrowsToes Overtime Till Springtime (clear-based glitter topper) and one final coat of  Hurt Me.

No but WAIT! Matte all the things!

What do you think? I really liked this collection but my runaway favorite is The Terminal Engagement. It's just SO stunning in person! I'm also really happy to get a great RED jelly to play with! What are your favorites?

  1. Sweet As Sugar Cold As Ice is my favorite, but I'll admit that shimmer in The Terminal Engagement is fantastic!

  2. These are so pretty! I feel like each one was more unique than I expected!

  3. Surprisingly, I like Hooker At Heart! :)

  4. Wah, pretty! Crows always manage something new, too... And considering the current thousands of new polishes the past few years.... that's something!

    1. If my skin tone could pull it off I'd so go for Terminal Engagement.
