Layla Hologram Effect Mercury Twilight and Jade Groove - Swatches and Review

Yesterday I showed you Layla Hologram Effect Flash Black. This evening I have Mercury Twilight and Jade Groove. I'm putting them in the same post because, well, they're SO close to each other.

Seriously, I dare you to tell which is which. If you have one, you don't need both.

Go ahead...tell me which fingers are wearing which polish!

Layla Hologram Effect - Mercury Twilight and Jade Groove

Both  Mercury Twilight and Jade Groove applied about like you'd expect for a very linear holo polish. Not the easiest to apply but no more difficult than the China Glaze OMGs or Nfu-Oh holos. First coat goes on streaky and evens out with the second. I didn't wait long enough between coats, so I have to apply a 3rd coat to even it out, but if you're careful and don't mess with them or over-manipulate, two should do the trick.

Mercury Twilight is a silver linear holo and Jade Groove is supposed to be a green linear holo, but it's so light that they're basically the same. You can see the difference in the bottle much more than you can on the nail. In shade where no holo is present on the nail at all, you can tell which is which, but not when the holo is showing.

Gorgeous linear holo for sure. What do you think?

These are available in the US at several online e-tailers and in store at Ulta for $15.50.

  1. I really like them, but I surely can't tell the difference between them, even when I know which one is which.

  2. Wow. Yeah, they sure look exactly the same on the nail. Killer holo though!

  3. Both gorgeous but virtually indistinguishable.

  5. Thanks so much. I hate to end up with 2 that are identical or even really close unless it's a shade I am nuts for like I was with fuchsia for a time. Did not matter - if it was fuchsia or magenta - I had to have it if it was in a line of polish I really liked.

  6. I compare Mercury Twilight to Gosh 549, they are exactly the same!
Today, in our blog we are showing the Ocean Rush, also amazing! All this hologram collection from Layla is very good!

I'm going to have to incorporate that into graphics on one of my swatches!

  8. I just put up a comparison of these two! :)

While there are super subtle differences, I completely agree with you. I don't think (imo) there is a reason to purchase both.

    Mercury Twilight all the way!

  10. All the same. Very funny that they decided release such similar polishes. Thanks for the interesting comparison pics.

    1. I forgot to add that there absolutely IS room in my stash for one or maybe two of these holos, especially since I found the last batches of Nfu-Oh 61 sooo, but SOOO disappointingly less holo than their first version.
Plus I am most of the time in Layla's country, plus they are significantly cheaper.
Pfffffff! I guess this is going to be a good lesson learned for Nfu-Oh.
