Nails Inc. Holly Hill

This evening I have Nails Inc. Holly Hill to show you.

Holly Hill is a tomato red creme. Application was smooth and easy, like most Nails Inc. cremes I've tried so far. I had no issues at all.

Before I did a full mani, I wanted to see how it compared to one of my favorite reds, Chanel Dragon. I love the application and creaminess of Dragon but if I didn't change my mani so often, it wouldn't be one of the ones I'd reach for often because after only one day, you can see the tip wear. I love some of the Chanels and others I don't. It's a hit or miss brand for me but when it's a hit, it's out of the park. I'm wearing Nails Inc. Holly Hill on the ring finger. As you can see, it's lighter, brighter and slightly more oranged-based red than Chanel.

What do you think of this one? Is it one you need to add to your collection?

A limited selection of Nails Inc polishes are available through Amazon.com or Sephora.com for around $9.50 in the US and the entire line is available through Nails Inc's own site nailsinc.com for around £11.00. Nails Inc. doesn't ship to the US so I'm ever thankful to my UK buddies for keeping me supplied.

A "Jubilee-shus" Union Jack

I got together with some fellow lacquerheads for "Jubilee Day" - we're all doing British-inspired manicures, whether it be just using British brands or something more. I decided to go with the cliche - Union Jack! I've been wanting to do a Union Jack mani for a long time so this seemed like the perfect time.

I'm sure most of you know, but this year is Queen Elizabeth's 60th year as Queen - her Diamond Jubilee. Quite a long time! And I'm a bit of an Anglophile anyhow, so I'm all over it!

For this mani, I used Nails Inc. Tudor Way, Chanel Dragon and Milani White on the Spot. (Yes only one brand is British, but the theme is very British, so I'm counting on sliding by on that.) I really do not excel working with tape or guides and I can't seem to stamp for the life of me, so I just used a striping brush and stuck my tongue out "just right." Yes, I've recently noticed that I stick my tongue out when I polish my nails. I also hold my breath when I take photos, too, but that's another session, er...subject.

Chanel Lotus Rouge, "Pulling a Sheila," a RAOK and a Red Comparison

Does anyone remember the Friends episode about "pulling a Monica?" Well, in the nail polish world, "Pulling a Sheila" means ordering/buying nail polish, forgetting about it and being confused/surprised when it arrives. It can also mean buying a polish I already have because I forgot I have it.

The other day, I received Chanel Lotus Rouge in the mail and for the life of me couldn't remember ordering it. But that happens a lot, so I've learned to search my emails for ordering or shipping confirmation. I did that and NOTHING! So I checked my Paypal for clues. Nope, not there either. WTHeck?

Turns out it was a conspiracy to make me loose what's left of my mind. Either that, or a very sweet person decided a RAOK (Random Act of Kindness) was in order.  After I found out who the culprit was, I knew for sure it was BOTH.  Thank you so much Silver! Your kindness is very much appreciated and the laughs (even though at MY expense) were priceless. ♥  And for those of you not fortunate enough to know Silver, I suggest you check her out. She writes about (mostly) nail polish here AND food here! What a great combination!

Now for the polish! Chanel Lotus Rouge is a deep red creme that applied smoothly and was mostly opaque in 2 coats. Being retentive like I am though, I'll probably add a 3rd coat. My nails are pretty stubborn when it comes to covering the VNL. No issues at all with the formula and the color is absolutely luscious! The photos are with 2 coats of color and NO top coat.

I decided to see how Lotus Rouge compares to some of my favorite reds, so I pulled out Chanel Dragon, Zoya ZsaZsa and Nails Inc. Tate...

As you can see, Lotus Rouge is a deeper red than the others. It has more blue undertones than Dragon and I actually like it better AND it likes my skin tone better, too!

What do you think? Which is your favorite red?

Chanel Dragon - I Found My Perfect Red!

Finally!!! I was so disappointed in the formula, despite all the hype, of Chanel Pirate. Not because it was bad, but because it was a "crelly." I guess I'm a straight creme kinda gal. It took way too many coats for me and I still didn't get the opacity I craved. But it was a gorgeous red.

Then I found Chanel Dragon. I don't know how many times I passed right by this one before I finally bought it on a whim. And it's just perfection in a bottle.

It's a lovely pure red creme with the perfect formula. It could probably be a one-coater, but two is perfect for me. Even my man said he loved it - with NO prompting or asking! He said a woman only needs one bottle of polish and THAT is the one. Well, I had to stifle my giggles on that one. If he only KNEW!

Now tell me you don't adore that red!  I think the ease of application and the total opacity reeled me in.
