Nail of the Day: Chanel Particulière #505

Personal Collection
*I don't believe this product to be Cruelty Free

I'll leave you tonight with a quick Nail of the Day post on a polish I've had for quite a while. It was recently pointed out to me that I've used over half a bottle of this polish and never done a proper post on it - just it. I've included it in a few comparison posts so I didn't even realize! Since it's part of the permanent collection and widely available, I thought I'd give it a quick shout-out tonight.

Particulière is a grey-based taupy brown creme and it's one of my favorite polishes ever. Perfect formula, although I sort of bunged it up a little with my top coat tonight. Bah! Still gorgeous though.

Do you have this one yet? It's been out a few years. If not. GO!

Chanel Khaki Rose - Khaki Collection FNO 2010

Chanel Khaki Rose in  Sunlight
Today I'm wearing Chanel Khaki Rose - it's like wearing hot cocoa on your fingers. Mmmmm!  Unfortunately, all of the talk of Autumn has me wishing that was actually a real season where I live. Feeling VERY homesick, as I always do this time of year.

I received this collection as a ROAK (Random Act of Kindness) earlier this year and I just love it.  All three in the collection are just so ME. They were released as a limited edition collection for FNO (Fashion's Night Out) in 2010.

Different lighting...

Chanel Khaki Rose

Chanel Khaki Rose
This is a creme, as are all the others in the collection, and goes on perfectly. Ease in application is a biggie for me as I hate clean-up and none of the photos have had any clean-up.  It's medium thick, so it covers well in one coat, but reaches perfection of coverage in two. Definitely not too thick though.

I've done a swatch comparison of all three and for reference have included Chanel Particuliere and Rimmel Steel Grey (touted as a Chanel Particuliere dupe.)

Chanel Khaki Collection

These are using one coat of each.  As you can see, Particuliere is greyer than Khaki Rose, which has more red undertones.  Khaki Brun is a murky/dirty dark olive brown and Khaki Vert is THE perfect olive green. The Rimmel Steel Grey is a little greyer and has more purple undertones than the Particuliere.

If that's not the most perfect 5 colors ever, I'll eat my shorts.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Pro - Steel Grey and Pink Zinfandel

So we're down to the last couple of Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro colors I have for review right now.  There are several other Rimmel variations, such as Rimmel 60 Seconds, coming up as well.  But for now, the last two in the Lasting Finish Pro line are my latest, Pink Zinfandel, and my favorite go-to polish, Steel Grey. No, you're not crazy, I've reviewed this one before, but it's my favorite, so I'm throwing it in there again.

Steel Grey is one of those mushroom-y, taupy colors I always fall for and because it's in this line, which happens to be one of my favorites, and is applied with one of the best application brushes out there, it qualifies as my "if you could only have ONE" polish.  It reads as a neutral, but has plenty of color saturation to contrast nicely with my pasty white skin.

Rimmel Steel Grey

Rimmel Steel Grey
Steel Grey is actually a fairly close Chanel Particuliere dupe, but, unlike Particuliere, Steel Grey has a slight hint of a purple undertone that makes me favor it slightly.  It wears like iron on my nails and is the polish I wear when traveling.  If I am going to be gone for more than a week, I'll take a clear-based glitter coat to wear over it the second week if/when it starts showing wear.

Lastly, we have Rimmel's Pink Zinfandel.  This is what I would call a "frost." (Remember the 80s?)  It's an easy-to-apply formula, but it does have the tell-tale brush strokes reminiscent of a frost.

Rimmel Pink Zinfandel

Rimmel Pink Zinfandel
It's a nice mauvy-pink frost.  I wasn't thrilled with the brush strokes and pastels aren't really my best colors, so I layered a coat of Wet n Wild Hannah Pinktana over it - a sheer, pink glitter/shimmer coat.  Hides the brush strokes fairly well and gives it a little more depth (and a little more contrast against my skin.)

This concluded the Rimmel reviews for a few days.  I think I kind of ODd on them for now!  Have a great day!

Chanel Particuliere Dupes

Okay, so my favorites are the mushroomy taupes/browns.  My go-to polish is Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Steel Grey, mainly because I love their brush better than any other.  The SA at the Chanel counter was convinced I was wearing Particuliere.

So I decided to do a comparison photo with Particuliere and a couple more polishes in the same family.  They're not exact dupes when seen right next to each other, but they're very close.

From Left to Right is Borghese Mochaccino, OPI You Don't Know Jacques, Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Steel Grey and Sally Hansen Commander-in-Chic on the thumb.

Click on the photo to enlarge it.  From Left to Right is Borghese Mochaccino, OPI You Don't Know Jacques, Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Steel Grey and Sally Hansen Commander-in-Chic on the thumb.

The Chanel is the only one of the 5 that doesn't seem to have ANY purple undertones.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro

This is my favorite "drugstore" brand.  The brush is perfection, as is the application for *most* of the polishes. My only complaint?  They need to produce more colors!!!

Here are a few swatches...

Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Steel Grey

Steel Grey with Love & Beauty Silver/Clear glitter layered on top

This is the closest "dupe" I can find for Chanel Particuliere and it's my "go-to polish.  A great neutral with enough contrast against my pasty-pale skin not to wash me out.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Marine Blue
No complaints on this one - I don't do blues well, but I think this had just enough green in it to work.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Violet Metal

Rimmel Lasting Pro Violet Metal

The Violet Metal is the only one so far with which I've had application problems - and that's not to say that it's not still okay, but I'm lazy. I don't like to have to do cleanup or wait too long between coats. The color is worth it, though.  Just like the name indicates, it's a metal violet.  The color doesn't disappoint.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Crushed Pearl

The Crushed Pearl is very translucent, which is not really my thing. I have nails (even without polish stain) that are on the yellowish side, which distorts sheers more than I am comfortable with.  I do wear it when I chop all my nails off though.

These photos are older, but from now on, when taking photos for the blog, I will make sure to do closeups so that the color is shown in the best, truest light.
