Nail Art Theme Week Day 4: Houndstooth Freehand Inspired by Nail Nerd

Nothing to Disclose

It's time for Day 4 of Theme Week! This time the theme is "Follow a Tutorial." I'm getting together with some of my blogger friends so be sure and check out the other great theme week manis at the end!

Today I have one of my favorite patterns of all time - houndstooth. I have a couple of stamping plates with houndstooth but I really suck at stamping, so I thought I would see if I could find a tutorial to follow for today's mani.

I found a pretty good one from Nail Nerd that I sort of followed. I didn't do it exactly the same, but it's close. Go check hers out here!

And this is how it turned out. I only did it on an accent nail over my current mani (Kiko 291) so it's sort of an Extend-A-Mani too! You can see that it's not perfect in this close up of course - I need new brushes for sure. I touched up around the edges of some of the pattern with the Kiko 291 and you can tell LOL! But at arm's length it looks awesome!

Because I was doing this over an existing mani and only wanted to use one color (black) I freehanded the little squares instead of doing the stripe method like in the tutorial. Also, I added the second line to mine just because that says houndstooth to me. So I put together a quick and dirty one-photo tutorial on just the houndstooth. I've done it larger here so you can see. But for the full tutorial using the stripe method for the squares, please refer to Nail Nerd's tutorial.

What do you think? I just love houndstooth. And you can do it in any colors of course - even alternate the colors of each "tooth" if you want!

Don't forget to check out the other great manis for this theme week below!

Incoco Nail Polish Appliqués - Tailored Fit

Press Sample
*This product is Cruelty Free

Tonight I have some 100% nail polish strips to show you from Incoco. This is my first time trying the strips made of real nail polish so I anticipated a learning curve but there didn't seem to be one!

The nail design I picked out is called Tailored Fit and it's a military-inspired houndstooth pattern combining neutral camo colors for a great fall/winter mani.

Weekend Bits and Bobs: November 16, 2013

Nothing to Disclose

It's nearly Thanksgiving already! And of course I haven't started preparations for ANYTHING yet. Well, except maybe picking out a few things for my Christmas wishlist. Okay FINE, I may have already purchased my Christmas gift to myself.

photo cred: Neiman Marcus/La Prairie

I can't wait - my sample is almost gone!

Catch me after the jump for a few more bits and bobs...

Weekend Bits and Bobs: September 8, 2013

Nothing to Disclose

Nothing really exciting happened this past week. No great travel photos or anything else remotely interesting, but I do have a few Bits and Bobs.

A new eye shadow palette: Wet n Wild Fergie Center Stage Collection: Photo Op in A031 Metropolitan Nights. I liked the other one I showed you last week so well, it's so well-pigmented, that I got another one.  This one is more like what I wear every day.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got some leggings while they were on sale at Romwe. They came pretty quickly considering they ship from Australia. They're SO comfy! And I love houndstooth.

This is a crappy cell pic with a Twinks photo bomb, but the fact that I'm actually putting a photo of me wearing them on "tha interwebz" is the really crazy thing. Oh well, if "they're making fun of me, they're leaving someone else alone!"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And THIS just recently happened. *sad face*

Yes, I need readers now. I had LASIK about 13 years ago and my vision was 20/15 for all those years so I can't complain. It was still the best thing I ever did for myself - I still have 20/20, just not for up close.

BUMMER!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And all of that work putting new airmatic shocks on the front of my car? I TOLD HIM we needed to take it to the shop, but noooooooooooooo! Turns out, it's probably the pump. So, I'll be replacing the fuse and seeing how long it takes it to blow it out again. At least thanks to the internet I know it's Fuse 32 and the O relay.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But, to end on a good couple of notes, I got THIS new Doctor Who tee. ♥
(On sale! From AllPosters.com)

and...my favorite mani of the week was Darling Diva RuPaulogize. That name just cracks me UP and the color is AMAZING! Once I put it on, I stopped swatching for the day and wore it to a fish fry.

And to reinforce the positive even more? IT'S RAINING AGAIN! #lovetherain

How was YOUR week?

Nail of the Day: Houndstooth Stamping and a Matching Skirt

*Products are from my personal collection
and not sent for review

Just a quick NOTD post for you...continuing on my hapless journey into stamping! I'm actually more happy with this attempt than any on the past and I think it's because of that awesome big squishy stamper I got from Ninja Polish!

I loved this one! What do you think? Am I improving? I used Kiko 327 and black Konad for the stamping. The plate was the DRK-A one from Ninja Polish.
